Headlight washer issues

Hi All, I have an e85 with headlight washers fitted however it seems the previous owners removed the pump. I have bought a new pump but looking at the pipe that feeds the headlight washers and the pump fitting, the don’t match, the pipe is too big for the pump fitting. I have double checked the part number of the pump, is there a fitting that needs to go between the washer pipe and the pump?

Thanks

Can't directly answer your question but my advice is to leave it alone. All it does is spray screen wash all over your bonnet and then randomly the jet covers will pop off and be lost and will cost you about £30 each to replace. Headlight washers are not MOT tested on pre 2009 cars. I just pulled the fuse out of mine.

Absolutely, I coded mine out as well on the M as I did on the previous car. I do fit a new pump for the new owner if they wanted to use it in the future but certainly not for me, thanks

I went one step further as wifey's car needed a new bumper. Fitted one without washers, binned all the washing paraphernalia and swapped the washer bottle for a single pump version with the headlight pump plug tied back out of the way.

Sort of a thread hijack, but

OP - on mine the hose just goes straight on to the pump.

Anyhow, I think my headlight washers are leaking, as I have the mysterious emptying reservoir.

I have disconnected the plug for the front pump, and taken the hose off to the bumper and capped the pump.

But now when I try and spray the motor goes but the spray is very weak.

I removed the fuse (Number 40 IIRC) on both my last two Z4s.

But a couple of years ago one of the headlight washers started leaking again, so I disconnected the pipe from the pump and wound a bolt into it so I'd still be able to use the screen washers. It's quite a short pipe that goes to a "T" piece somewhere behind the grilles that has a pipe to each of the headlamp washers.

They're more trouble than they're worth putting streaks up the front of the car, leaking, and having covers and sometimes the whole jet detaching themselves. :headbang:

Thanks. Ok, so I may have a different problem.

Did you only block off the pump or did you block off the pipe too?

One for after work this week.

I disconnected the short pipe between the pump and the T piece and blocked it off at the T piece end, otherwise fluid would dribble out of the pump.

Thanks. I've blocked it off at the pump, but the windscreen jets are weak. I must have a leak in the box or somewhere else. Perhaps the box could be cracked? Time to take it all off this week. Thanks!
