2009 2.3 e89 headlight issue ,when switching them on i thought they should lift up and level .mine dont seem to move, on the front wishbone i had a snapped rod that goes to a resistor of some sort, i presume to level the headlights? any help welcome ,is there any other possible faults not causing the lights to level as the beam seems high

On E85/86s it's only cars with Xenons that have self-levelling. Assuming the same is true for E89s your headlights will only do what you describe if you have Xenons.

It’s got the levelling sensors front rear suspension si presumed I have them , they seem a bit skyward

That because one of your sensors or the arm is broken, When my rear broke the headlights aimed very low. Just replace the arm and take it from there.

You've lost me a bit there, but if you have any sort of beam height adjustment on the light switch you won't have Xenons.

If you do have Xenons there will be a High Voltage warning sticker on the bonnet slam panel.

No beam adjustment on the light switch , so think I have xenon’s , have replaced the front rod but no change will check rear tomorrow when light , can the levelling units be tested?

All UK E89s had a single Xenon discharge bulb each side..on start up the lights ‘rise’ as part of the test procedure…the ‘level’ is controlled by the input from the front and rear level sensors..on the front back suspension linkages

I have just driven home my Z4M. When it got dark the auto headlights came on but their angle meant they pointed at the ground quite close in front of me. According to the options list I have xenon lights and I dont have an angle adjuster in the cockpit. My first thought when I got home was to check the manuals to locate the angle adjustor. I'm a complete newbie to these cars. Could someone please explain a bit more about what I should be looking for to find a fault please?

Could anyone explain exactly where I should see the rods that are being mentioned or show a photo?

Also, where would I find the sensors that B21 mentions?

This is an E89 thread not E85..

If you have Xenon’s then you’re not allowed to have manual adjustment of the level..it’s part of certification of Xenon’s ..
