Headlight help

My passenger side headlight is out. To give some context I opened the lamp to use the headlight converter for my driving trip to Italy. I am guessing I did not secure the backplate on correctly as water managed to get into the headlight. The light housing is now fully dry and I have replaced both the headlight bulb and sliver square lightning/ballast pack with no luck.

What else could it be?
 
The square pack is the ignitor (like this one) - the ballast is underneath and fixed onto the base of the headlight - unfortunately its bumper off and take the headlight out to exchange the ballast. If you haven't already exchanged that, it does sound like the ballast is shot with water ingress (being at the base of the headlight, the water travels naturally to the connectors and on into the ballast. A great design. :roll: )

Ballasts are about £70 on eBay (like this one), or a lot more from the dealers.
 
Its not that difficult tbh - there is a how to here. Once you've done it once, its dead easy (takes me about 10 minutes to remove it now). Whereabouts are you - could be someone local might be able to assist?
 
The part is circa £500 at dealer and only £50 on ebay- 20 min job (done myself and if local to me would happily help you)
 
Ok dealer has kindly diagnosed a failed control/ballast unit. Want £1400 to fix! As with the above advice I have ordered a new unit from they bay and will embark on many scuffed knuckles next weekend.

£1400... That's why they are called stealers :o
 
Wow - even for a dealer that's having a larf.

Take your time. Put some old carpet or towels on the drive so you don't scratch the bumper and then light off and swap the ballast.
Try to mark how the light was fitted so it aligns exactly and put penetrating oil on the retaining bolts so they don't snap.

Be aware that you headlight might be shot if the water has corroded the connector to bits. Let's hope not.
