Headlamp washers stuck open (Xenon). Anything I can do?

Good morning all,
Noticed my headlamp washers have stuck open the other day after a 250 mile round trip. Have done a search on here which suggests they are stuck because I have not got an anti-freeze mixture in the washer bottle however, it has not been that cold here. I did pour hot water on them this morning to see if it was that but still not retracted.

So, what's wrong with them? They still squirt water, just won't go back inside their cave.

I have another big trip at 11am and am worried that the plastic tops will blow off on the motorway leaving me with a bill I don't like.

Tried 'gently' pushing them back in and the one being pushed does go down most of the way, but as I do this the other one just goes up even higher.

Anyone know what is wrong? And is there anything I can do to either fix them or at least get them to go back in their hole as a temporary, quick fix.

Thanks.

Sounds like the water is unable to flow back into the rservoir as the pistons try to retract themselves.

As a temp measure you can unclip the covers so at least there is no risk of losing them

I'd also gently push back both pistons at the same time. Doubt any damage from that.

As to cause - if not low temperature and ice, then I'd suspect gnk in the pump filter or damamge to the pump.
