Morning all.
Anyone know how to remove the head restraints or the plastic seat back?
Trying to get a leather Swatch sample and struggling. Lots of loose materials under the HR but cannot see how you relalease it

On the E89 the headrest is part of the seat and is fixed AFAIK

The seat back has two screws at the bottom.

I think the seat has to come out , or you need to drop the roof, slide forward, and fumble about.

Don’t remove the seats before reading about doing it, it’s not a straightforward job!

On the Sports seats the headrests are removed by pulling headrest upwards with either roof open or seat bent forward. It fits over a black metal bar.

Don't know about non-sport seat.

I am curious how do you remove the headrests? they are all part of the seat covered in one piece of leather if I am not mistaken or are you referring to doing it once the leather is removed?

Who do you need the swatch for?

Certainly Gliptone - and I assume other car leather product suppliers - have a large bank of colours and can provide matches on demand if you just tell them the colour name or code from your car.

That said, if, for whatever reason, you must take a sample from your car, only a very small one is needed. I sent Gliptone a piece no more than 2x10mm from beside the zip on a sofa, from which they produced a perfect match. So, have a root round the underside of a seat or the inside of a door car and see what you can find.

The headrests on the M sports seats are separate, the SE seats have the headrests built into the back seat panel.images.jpegView attachment 1

Yes it's for gliptone. I gave them the proper BMW leather code but they didn't have it for some reason, I know others have been successful with this. There is nothing obvious get at underneath and didn't want to take the seat out. They advised me to get a match using a b and q chart which I did. They matched that perfectly but when applied to the seat it was just wrong.
Swatch is on its way to them now so fingers crossed
