Having the RTAB's changed out and limiter installed, expensive quote?

Hi all,

Im looking to change my RTAB and install a limiter/shim kit. I would fit the poly bushings myself but dont want any more creaks or noises so thought Id replace the originals and add the limiters.

I dont feel confident enough doing this myself with the pretension so have asked the local specialist for a quote.

Theyve come back with "The bushes on the rear arms are as follows, the bush on the end of the arm is £19.25 and the bush on top is £38.53 plus vat. The labour time to replace these bushes is four hours @£71.95 per hour and it is recommended that a full wheel alignment is carried out afterwards which is £108.00 plus vat"

I didnt realise there was 2 sets of bushes here? Is it just the rear arms I need to change or both? And 4 hours seems like an awful long time to do?

Allignment I was planning to do after anyway but not with them.

sounds horrifically expensive. its an hour a side providing they arent too seized in, its only usually the bush at the end of the arm you replace too, i'd go somewhere else.

I know you said you don't feel confident but there are some good how to guides on here.

Be brave and save some cash

Thanks for responses. So is it just the bush on the rear of the arm that needs doing?

I'd have a go myself, I recently fitted a b12 kit, replaced wishbones, lollipop bushes, drop links etc. But I'd heard people mentioning it was a pig to get the pretension correct on the oem bushes? To be honest I don't even really know what this means.

I thought if it was only an hour or 2 of labour I would stump up and get it done but 4 hrs at 70 odd quid an hour sounds extreme.

rtabs are a big enough job, i got quoted £120 to change both sides in labour at £30 an hour so the amount of time adds up, and thre guy doing my stuff is trusted, he actually rang me after doing the front/rear bushes and rollbars to ask me did i really want this done because it would be another 120 because of what needs removed to get it done.

The hourly costs below and that wheel alignment is insane though, i had 4 wheel laser alignment here in two different places for £40 each.

75 an hour is more expensive than some dealers here

I've never done it before and it never took me 4 hours. As long as you have the bush removel tool its not that difficult. BMW have a specal tool for pretentioning but i use a pice of wood clamped onto the base of the cage.

Took me an hour each side on stands but that was poly so no preload faff. Mark the cage and you're unlikely to need an alignment assuming it's correct to start with.
