Have I broken my aerial?

Morning all,

I thought replacing an aerial with a stubby would be simple. Screw the old one off, screw the new one in. Thirty seconds. Even I couldn't get this wrong. But, of course, this being me, I've managed to screw it up. The old one really didn't want to come off. It was very happy sitting where it was and really didn't want to go anywhere. So, after much fighting, I seem to have got half of it off. And now I'm left with a weird screw thing attached to the bottom aerial base, it looks something like this: http://i.imgur.com/EH5MG.jpg

So, have I totally broken it and need to order a new base, or will the square screw undo (injured myself twice trying so far, but with encouragement will continue!) and release the thread and all will be ok?

Answers on a postcard please!
 
Ooh never seen that before, but the 'silver bit' needs to come out too - some WD40 to loosen it up first would be a good idea.

Should be left with a threaded 'hole' for the next aerial to screw into.

p.s. Nice Coupe - We've got a bright red one too :)
 
Looks like an aftermarket connection to the aerial, not see that before either - needs to be removed, but be careful you don't force the base to move.

+1 Watch you don't damage the aerial base, so carefully goes it :thumbsup:
 
WD40, Wait 30 minutes, give it a little wiggle, WD40, Wait 30 minutes, give it another little wiggle, more WD40 then gently remove. it will crack then should just unscrew. Good luck
 
A new base will cost you about 10gbp so it is nothing to worry too much about.

When i put my stubby on the bolt sheared and i had to replace the base.
 
How bizarre. Never seen that before :scratchhead:

A good soak in oil and gently does it, should come off ok
