As title has anyone had a BMW Main dealer refuse to replace a failed roof motor under their 12 month approved used car warranty?
Many thanks!

on what grounds?
During the short conversion I had this morning with the service desk, their telling me the roof motor is'nt covered as its failed because of water ingress. :?

From what I've read here and elsewhere this is a known problem and should have been done at service intervals.

If its got a FBMWSH then you probably have a good argument?

which is an inherent design fault....just tell them you'll get it repaired elsewhere at your own expense then sue them in Small Claims Court (cheap and easy) for the money and expenses.

Thats an appalling response.

BMW's Service schedule makes no mention that it should be done as part of the service routine, but it is a known problem (as we all know).

Water ingress is not the issue. The car is designed to have water flow down there or they would not have put drains in those locations. The issue is the water being held in the motor compartment due to plugged drains. I call it poor maintenance and if they had checked the drains before selling you the car then this would not have happened. Any dealer's service department is fully aware of this issue and they should have checked it when they prepped the car for sale to you.

Small but important issue here ..............

Doesn't matter what is written in the warranty, or even if there is a warranty. All goods sold by a vendor whether new or second hand must be "fit for purpose" ....... a roof motor that has failed after say 1 to 3 months is not fit for purpose, a roof motor that fails because of water ingress on a vehicle designed to be used in the rain .... is not fit for purpose.

Depending on how long you have had it etc etc etc these are words that are quite effective.

Good point actually; even in the absence of a dealer warranty, the law imposes a six month one on them, especially with regard to failures that were likely to have been developing at the point of sale. But any decent dealership knows that full well.....tell them if that if it helps, you'll get Trading Standards to give them a ring to explain their obligations. :?

I think their attitude is disgusting!

Its not a wear and tear item like, bulbs, tyres or brake pads.

I will be telling the dealer these points,as I feel they have hit the nail on the head so to speak for me!!
Thank you

Hey don't just tell the dealer - put it in writing! See the bit in my signature about getting the best out of dealers. Keep a record of all contact with the dealer over this - invaluable if you end up in CC.
