has anyone ever done this?

Looking forward to it!! still think its brilliant you even considered putting the tyre on your Mrs!!

Passenger seat all the way back = tyre stood up in footwell - wife's feet through the gap in the middle of the tyre?

Just a thought - don't know if it will fit. . .

:driving:

Tried that also paul. Fouls the doorcard :( someone needs to invent a z4 roof rack that can be folded away into the boot.

Roof down, both tyres one on top of the other used as a booster seat  probably best to make sure the wind deflector is in place. Could the wife consider wearing them as hula hoops?. Sorted!!

Will the passenger seat go forward far enough to get the tyre down behind and then strap to rollover bars? (Enough room to sit?)

Rollover bar in centre of tyre and (protecting the paintwork of boot/roof fabric) strap to seatbelt anchorages? (Enough room for your wife's head?)

Trying to think hard here. . .

I'd be tempted to strap the tyre to the top of the boot via flat fabric straps going into the boot and use the rollover hoops for other straps. Would have to protect the boot with something like rubber backed carpet and be careful not to damage dent or crease it. . .perhaps take the weight of the tyre across the top of the lowered roof fabric rather than the boot.

Have you got a friend with a bike rack? If so see if it will fit on the boot and use this to attach the tyre to - I have read an account of Roadster owners transporting bikes in this way so should be possible - they sell a cheap version in Tesco which might work?

I'd do everything to avoid your wife having to have the tyre on her lap but it may be the only answer! Nicer journey back however.

Putting both tyres in the boot and tying down the boot is another solution I'd consider. . . good luck!

Bolt them to the outside of your rear wheels, you might need to make up some temporary extended wheel arches to remain 'legal'.
Just remember the extra width when overtaking and try not to take out too many bikers hammering up the middle lane. If you get stopped by the plod try and argue the custom car theme...

Is this where Brad got the idea for the Marmite Machine from?
