Harsh Ride: Such a shame

This was my main issue and just ruined the fun for me.

But since I've got non m suspension on the front and non m springs on the rear with gaz adjustables plus new front wishbones and rubbers plus hunter alignment it's been brilliant.

Basically if you don't like it change because otherwise its a great car

And I did spend a bit different set ups

Yeah, iirc people mentioned the 2.5i cars without the m-sport suspension drove a lot nicer than the 3.0i with m-sport as standard!

It'd be interesting to do a swap and see :D

Is it just a case of switching to the non M springs? or do the dampers need to be changed also?

Have thought about this before but didnt know whether I could justify the spend as I am never sure just how long I will keep the coupe for.

I think the suspensions all went stiff later on.

The original cars in the UK were 2.5i with optional m-sport suspension and 3.0i with m-sport as standard.

Later cars just all had the rock hard stuff didn't they?

I did a quick measure of wheel rates a while back (tyres included) and they were in the region of 2.2hz front and 2.8hz rear. I'd guess this is even higher with the OEM RFTs!

Race cars are considered to start around 2hz and upwards for aero reasons, maybe in the region of 2.5hz+ with stiff tyres... so you can get an idea of how stiff it is.

So tyres will certainly help but it's still quite rough with m-sport suspension.

Ideally you'd swap dampers otherwise it'll be over-damped. That might not be an issue if it was a bit under-damped to begin with, but have too much damping might make the car less comfortable too.

In the end the Z4 is still nice most of the time. It's just weird why it is so stiff as standard. I bet it could be 1/3rd less stiff and much better 90% of the time for being as such. Just need to add a bit of ride height but that is no bad thing either as they are so low as standard. 10mm or so wouldn't be noticeable but would be plenty for extra travel and clearance.
