"Hardtop not latching"

Hey Guys I was wondering if someone could give me a hand, I bought a Z4 which was hit on the rear right side and have replaced the quarter panel, boot lid and rear bumper. I also changed the roof module and lifting mechanism on that side. My mechanic has been trying to see what the issue is with the roof but has not been able to resolve anything. He says he is trying to program the new module but cannot get into it and says it might be due to something with the K-line (or something along that line). When you drive the car the roof light message comes on in the dashboard and a "Hardtop not latching" message shows on the Navigation Screen. The open button for the roof is also flashing red along with that annoying alarm sounding every second (same as unbuckled seatbelt alarm). Is there any chance someone has had a similar problem and got it resolved, or maybe point me in the right direction with respect to troubleshooting.
Thanks in advance for any help

If you have the error code, I can look it up on the ISTA/D system?

It's likely a result of the damage, a faulty sensor, wiring or connection. It's going to have to be a dealer/garage job to fix most likely. How did they miss this?!

+1 Maniacs view.

Firstly, all programming must be carried out via the iCom A+B controller. Google it for more info. The standard OBD2 port can only be used for diags, not programming.

If you have the iDrive, the Check Control should give you the codes?

When I start the car, I get a red flashing light on the roof button (opening one). Only when i try to open the rood do I get a message on the idrive stating "roof impaired". When I drive i get another message on the idrive screen stating hardtop not latching...(as well as that annoying alarm)...regards

Hi,

It looks like the Autologic system (V3.0) has some limitations around Initialisation/Coding of the Roof.

Page 95 of the below link shows what is possible.

http://www.autologic-diagnostics.com/media/uploads/pdfs/tech_specs/bmw_techspec_autologicsoftwaretechspecforbmwvehicles_en_pf_v3.0.pdf

Also, this link has some good information about the technology and logic employed within the E89. Of particular interest will be the section covering the operation and location of the roof and its ancillary components.
