Hi guys

Just got my 06 2.5i and its only done 12000 but whenever on a slight incline seems to roll back with handbrake pulled up quite high. Anyone else had this problem or does my hand brake just need adjusting? and if I take it to bm will they charge me to do this??

cheers

Tony

I noticed with my 03 3.0 that I have to pull the handbrake pretty much to max for it to lock well enough to not let the car roll....haven't tested it on a steep incline yet. But then I normally put the car in first then shut it off to help keep it from rolling.

Hi tnnytnny; I always pull my brake, release then pull up again. This seems to work quite well as I live in a hilly area and get annoyed by having to shut down in order to be safe. Give this a try

Besides, you could always just leave the brake down and let the car rest against someone else's car. Therefore letting their parking brake do all the work and saving your brakes and the cable/mechanical linkage from wear and tear.

Hi,

I noticed this last night. My 2nd garage is so tight a few mm make a difference!

If it carrys on moving i will pop in in the dealers.

So...is it bad to leave the car in gear when parked? I usually put the car in 1st and pull the e-brake whenever I park. I figure double the stopping power....is this bad?

I wouldn't think anybody would park any manual vehicle without putting it in gear along w/e-brake.

asked the dealer to adjust mine which he did, it's still pants. park on a slope every day as im too lazy to go straight into the garage.

mine was adjusted by a mechanic and not the dealer. no problems since.

Definately put it in the gear incase the e-brake fails. i also turn my steering wheel if i am on a steep incline to avoid the car rolling down the street

when i did that it was impossible to start it with one hand and unlock the steering wheel with the other hand, had to have triple A come out and the guy just yanked on it and it worked. Now I'm afraid to bank the wheels.
