hand brake did something funny

i think my handbrake might be broken or jammed

it doesnt seem to have much travel and often it doesnt engage great unless you give it a decent yank. not so much a massive pull you just have to be firm and sharp. so yesterday i parked up and lifed it as i always do and there was a great massive bang and it went up twice the amount. it was iff it was catching or i'd oulled it past a stop or summat.

i put it down stright away and then its back to normal. any ideas?

Its a fault with the hand brake leaver.

Mine was changed on my E85 in warranty.

do a search of the forums.

There was a thread on here some time ago about the hand brake lever moving different amounts when applied and some said that it moved less on the second pull...I think it was mentioned that the self-adjusting mechanism (ratchet) could slip. Mine will on occasion slip with a bit of a bang when being applied only to behave perfectly when applied the next time :o

thanks, didnt really know what to search for.

the ratchet thing sounds about right ill ook for that.

Mine had exactly this problem when I bought the car (along with most other common z4 issues). Was a pretty cheap and easy fix if I remember right.

Mine does this occasionally too. Is it an easy fix? Anybody got a link to more info?

I hope you get it sorted soon.

(I've been trying so hard not to post something along the lines of, 'what did it do, tell a joke?' coats on, sorry)

LOL - that thought went through my head too... Your willpower must still be weakened by recent experiences :D
