Had to drop the roof and climb in the zed !

Hi all,It was -5 this morning and I had just finished my night shift and de-iced my windows on my car.De-icer was in the boot just in case I couldn't open the doors.Fully thawed the windows before trying to open the door,the window didn't drop! I didn't want to force the door open just in case I damaged the door window.I ended up dropping the roof and climbing in.I ordered 2 x Einszett Gummi Pflege Rubber Care Sticks off ebay a couple of days ago but haven't got it yet!

Hopefully that will make life a little easier once I've done the rubbers and seals.This is my first winter in the zed, so are there any other problems I need to know about winter driving.I've read they can be a bit of an hand full in ice and snow :driving: :lol:

I may have to look into the winter tyres.The only thing is,I can get by only using the car for 12 days a month just for going to work.I wasn't expecting these conditions so early in the season! :thumbsdown:
Don't you just love british weather,it has done nothing but p*** it down since I bought my zed in april :thumbsdown:
They all blame me at work :poke: for the crap summer,since I bought a roadster! :lol:
 
Mine was on the super frozen side this morning, couldn't get the door open despite gummi pfledge application just a few days ago... I've put some more on the seals now!

Stood there like a fool for two minutes breathing on the seals before the door peeled open...
 
does anybody make an internal overnight heater that could be left in the car - just to take it above the freezing point?
 
Mine has never frozen to the point that the doors dont open... Even 2 years ago when it was -15 outside!

I have been using the Touran in the past few days, as the Z has a layer of snow and is firmly frozen shut. Anyway I probably wouldn't get it up the hill out of the estate. When I get it open I must treat it with the Gummi-Pflege that came just before the frost. I did buy it a hat (presently nicely packed in the boot) but an all over cover might be better

The Touran - with its winter wheels - is great in snow. :)
 
Could it be as simple as having a small towel in the cabin and giving the rubber a quick wipe on the way out. This seemed to work on the last car I owned that had frameless glass in the door.
 
The biggest issue for me seems to be if its rained, then frozen.. other than a cover (which I wont do cos it'll scratch the paint) gummi pfledge seems my only option...
 
I'm going to try dropping the window 2 or 3 mm before getting out of the car just to clear the slot on the pillar and surroundings so it is just the main door seals that stick and not the glass,which shouldn't cause a problem.Alarm will still work as well.
Postie has just dropped my Gummi Pflege off so I will stick some on later. :thumbsup:
 
If memory serves isn't it a " no no " to drop the roof at these sort of temperatures.

I'll stand corrected if that isn't the case.

Yup, manual says -20 IIRC. I wouldn't drop it if it was frozen though... It's feckin' cold out - mine lives in the garage, but I parked up at services for an hour or so today at about 7am, and by the time I got back to it the damp from driving though light spray had started to frost over on the roof. Brrrrrrrrr :(
 
Once I'd got in the roof was back up,my work mates said drive home with the top down with your shades on. :lol: At 6am in the morning -5 I don't think so,

Good point! The car tries to protect itself from us idiots, but it can't tell the fabric is packed up with ice. We need to use some common sense!
