Any gym freaks on here? surely with a posey car as the Z there must be? :D

Thought could be handy for sharing tips and stuff. especially after seeing the 'extreme male bodies' program last night, lacked alot of good advice for getting in shape.

Looking for some tips myself to get that ultra lean look without losing my bulk, i.e want to go from 17% bodyfat to 10-12% but keep my weight. Without having to go to a zero fat diet of brown rice and chicken only.

try doing some climbing, that's what I do to keep in shape amongst other things. There's nothing quite like dragging your own body weight about for getting rid of fat and its tons of fun as well - loads better than a gym! I use an indoor climbing centre once a week. I was going twice but was getting too muscley - not a good look on a girl. Good male climbers have fantastic physiques

I currently go 4/5 times a week.

I do not, however, have a gym style body! :D

Mines a weight loss assistance. Went to my first spinning class last night - fantastic. Very energetic. Apparently really good for burning calories and fat.

Thing is I have no real fat as it is, fairly ok 6 pack etc. I just want that ultra lean look, you know 'tight' skin etc. Hence wanting to drop 5% in bodyfat..... thing is my diest is pretty good but I don't want to have to make it any worse. I have to eat 7 small/meduim meals a day as it is to maintain my weight (15st) - I worry if I do cardio I'll need to eat even more! Its damm expensive as it is.

I wonder if there are any good supplements out there, maybe a fat burner? But do they just burn fat and not muscle? Like I say I'm just looking to go that little bit further.

I train 4 days a week and have no time for any more, I could maybe run at lunch but that is it, busy lifestyle unfortunaltey.

Yeh I reguarly go 3- 4 times a week, I havent seen that extreme male beauty yet, I recorded it, and cant wait to see it, as that is the gym I train in  and they have some seriously big guys there, I train to keep fit and have some definition, but at 48 it gets harder :(

Steve who owns the gym was dead nervous about what they were going to edit and how they would all come across :D I can ask him your question about keeping your bulk and staying lean, although I think you would have to have some strict regime, I know guys who do it when they are entering competitions, but they dont keep it up :D

I thought the point was you can't have a lean body all the time on anything but a silly diet, you either bulk and cut and be relatively happy, or stay lean and same muscle, no fat buildup, and have a dodgy diet :D

I'd not worry too much to be honest, unless you walk around naked and care what other people think of you while doing so, that much ;)

Ive grown lazy as the years have passed, and developed a bit of a pot due to this, along with lacking general fitness. That said, i have been getting out more recently and going for brisk walks, and at home doing some weights. But my diet is not good - too many pies, pasties, cheese burgers and chips! Yum! :) Im not much of a drinker so that area is taken care of.
Not sure i could take to these strict fitness diets, i like to enjoy my food, not force something down i dont like!

The key issue to putting on muscle is not totally depended on lifting heavy weights but what you eat. Vary your program and get at least one gram of Protein per pound of body weight down your neck per day. Eat small meals regularly and ensure you take protein before you train and straight afterwards. I take L-Cartanine which is a fat burner about 30 mins before a session and this stuff does work, but you do have to control your diet. Try and keep your carbohydrate intake low (avoid rice and pasta) and raise your fat intake instead, does not mean you go and eat a large bar of Cadburys. Take cottage cheese before you hit the sack as it is low in fat and carbs and has a good dose of protein in it, main advantage is it is slow in digesting so will feed your body whilst you sleep. Remember, sleep is very important as this is the time your body recovers and repairs from the workout, hence why you take cottage cheese for its protein content. If you want any more help then give us a nod.

My diet is good really, 7 small/med meals a day inc 2 mass with protien shakes in that, over 200g of protien a day and 400g of carbs, but I generally keep my saturated fat pretty low. I train well and always mix my routine up, i never fail to ache for the 2 days after a session. Maybe I will give that L-Cartaimine a go then. Thing is I seem to have to eat carbs to keep my weight up, I need to eat the above just to keep my weight at 15st. I got to 15st 10lb lat year by doing 5000 calories a day for a while, but my bodfat was a bit higher then and frankly it was hard going eating that many 'good' calories.

The gym didnt come out badly but IMO the guy on steriods really didnt look good for it! He was fairly big but not remotely cut really.

Just looking to shed a few % of bodyfat for summer, will look into the Cartanine, thanks for the tip.

Nothing against you fit guys,oh how i would love to be 21 again, burstin out my shirt,
but love my ciggs & whisky and good nights out with the girls,as your only here
for a short time,,enjoy it,,,as for al the heavy weights, protein, cheese, muscles, carbs,
etc.etc,is there not a gym forum out there,,Z4 is a car,not a treadmill.

The guy on steroids was a total idiot, luckily he does not go to the gym I do,

That gym I use i am informed is in episode 3, steve who runs that is a real muscle guy, trains like mad.

It was really interseting to watch them making it, he wanted to train with the big guys, watch it and you will see

HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) is great for burning fat. Essentially you perform a cardio exercie at your maximum intensity for short intervals, rather than long, steady periods. An example would be instead of a 5 mile jog, running 8-10 30-second sprints, with a brief rest period between each to catch your breath. As you get better, you extend the sprint period until you're up to 1 minute, then start shortening the rest breaks.

The theory is that this intensity quickly expends your glycogen stores so your body starts burning more fat more quickly than normal, and ramps up your metabolism so that you're burning more calories throughout the day. Also helps raise your VO2 max. I lift weights 3x/week, and do HIIT 2x/week, I'm pretty pleased with the results.

I worked in a gym for 2 years while I couldn't get a "proper" job after graduating - hard, hard work but fun. Mainly did inductions and took a lot of classes - up to 8 per week (spinning and circuits my speciality - I was never coordinated enough for the BTS-type classes, e.g. Body Combat, etc). Couldn't keep my body weight up despite a proper diet and actually doing a bit of my own strength-based training - just too much cardio going on at the same time.

I've not been in a gym for about 4 years now and don't miss it at all. I do have a proper ex-gym spin bike and decent free weights at home which I use over the winter months, but if the weather's decent I'd rather be doing something outdoors - mountain-biking or walking or something. That's one thing I hated about the gym - a complete lack of windows although that meant you just had to check out the talent :D

Yep, gym is boring.

Get out and wash/detail your car, good low intensity training at a good heart rate to burn fat.

My workmate who was bulking then cutting a while back said his heart rate/duration was perfect for low intensity fat burning while doing the above... every morning at 6am... neighbours must think he was mad :P

Best place will always be muscletalk forums I guess, loads of great advice on there!

I've always been 15-15.5st, 6ft, 34in waist, from age 20 to 29 now... no matter if I were at the gym, or not (went on and off from 21-23 ish), I've stayed pretty much the same, just doing free weights/pullups/pressups etc/exercise bike at home now and again.

I personally think the gym/special diet is a waste of time unless you plan to sustain it till the day you die, best to get fitness/activity/diet right in your daily life while making it a pleasure to do, and then just get on and enjoy life with a comfy regime that keeps you in good shape without having excessive and stinky wind from the daft diets ;)

I train at the gym 3-4 times a week, but i'm not a freak  There are some real freaks when i'm training in the weights area though and they look awful.

Can i just say that there is nothing less attractive than a man with huge muscles that feels like plastic and looks like a Ken doll because there is no fat, i hope you don't want to look like that :(

Exactly, a man who spends more time than a woman over their looks is a man for women to avoid (apparently)

Thats why I have a layer of fat to cover my six pack, just so I don't look like I try too hard

Sooooo glad to here that from a female :D

No I'm just saying I like to keep in shape, feel better about yourself and I like my women to have nice bodies so I should keep my end of the bargain too! Never had any complaints, I'm by no means big really, just got some shape to me, IMO Hugh Jackman and Jason Stratham have pretty much ideal bodies - right balance of size/leaness. Agree proper bodybuilders just look like freaks!

It becomes a hobby though, and as with anything you want to improve etc. I live alone and would rather spend my evenings down the gym with a couple of mates that sat in front of a TV watching utter rubbish on my own.
