Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 3s

Read on a post somewhere recently that these tyres should be on a certain way, and that it should say 'Exterior' somewhere. Is this the case? I just had a new set fitted and can't see this wording anywhere. Is it obvious? Cheers

Asymmetric tread tyres are usually marked interior/exterior and direction of rotation on the sidewalls.

I posted about Goodyear Eagle F1 A2's having "outside" (or "Exterior" in various languages if Euro supplied like mine), I'm not sure about the A3 but they are asymmetric so must be fitted similarly, so assume they must have indication of some sort (maybe the inside doesn't have writing which would be a clue I suppose). Looks like the narrow block bands are on the inside in this pic

This link has pics of A1, A2 and A3 fitted which should help http://www.merityre.co.uk/car-tyres/goodyear-tyres

Daft as is sounds but if you can't see any wording on the outside you could try checking the inside to see if its marked up somewhere as "inside" etc. As others have said, as an asymmetric tyre it has to fitted a specific way and for the tyre fitter to know which way it must be marked/coded somewhere.

Ok thanks everyone, I'll look again both sides. I'm asking as they took a couple of times to get balancing ok but they still don't feel quite right- there's a strange minor 'squirming' I can feel in the steering wheel at about 60mph. Could be because they're quite new-done about 100 miles so far.

Just thought, is the rim protector on the outside, they only have one engineered into the tyre and put it on the outside of the tyre to protect from kerbing etc. That's one sure fire way to check they are fitted correctly.

You still have a (small) balancing issue.

I have had plenty of experience of trying to get balancing right with a few different garages. Some get it very wrong and then correct to a reasonable degree as you have now. Only a few get it done well enough to not have any dancing or wobbling in the wheel. 60mph is a classic speed for this to show up. My only advice is try somewhere else where they may have a better more accurately calibrated machine. The cleaner and newer the machine the better.

I have AS3s and the rim protector is indeed the only easy indicator. Coming from AS2s they have a very rounded profile and you lose around 2cm of contact patch width for the same size tyre. The rim protector is correspondingly much smaller too.

Maybe get a free winter check? Might take a look at the tyres for you?

Don't forget about the new exhaust, clutch and plethora of bulbs you also be told you need and that all work can conveniently be done straight away by a 16 year old YTS with a weeks experience. Bargain!!!

Yeah there is that... never done it so don't know. Would be handy to know the strength of the coolant/antifreeze? That's the only one I don't know how to check for myself.

You can buy a little tool for that, it's like a giant pipette which tells you the temperature of the antifreeze protection. About 10 pounds IIRC.

Good idea, I'll try another garage I think. There's one in Dorking that a couple on here have recommended-it's not too far away.

I checked mine today, there's no marker on the outside. There's a massive writing "INSIDE" On the inside of the tyre. Bit weird but hey.

I guess "Inside" on the inside is sufficient clue for most fitters! and 'normal' owners won't be fretting over such things. Goodyear obviously didn't consider the needs of us anal, paranoid and distrusting Z4 owners
