Goodwood Festival of Speed Advice

Hi Guys,

Looking to start booking for a few events for 2017 and I am intending to visit the Goodwood Festival of Speed for the first time this year and just wondering if any of you have been in previous years and have any advice. I am thinking of going for one day driving up the day before and staying in a hotel and getting to Goodwood early for the day then driving back to Cornwall. I was thinking of the Thursday which is a new "extra" day for Goodwood, thinking it would be quieter, less people and kids etc. I am mainly going for the experience and photography opportunities.

Any advice on the visit, things to take or things not to miss :thumbsup:

Been every year for the last 8 or 9 years.

Thursday is the moving motor show. Its not new. It is shite. Don't waste your time on it!

Friday is practice. We usually go on a Friday, its not as busy as the weekend, but its progressively getting worse each year.

Do get grandstand seats, you'll be very grateful for them.

Don't miss the rally stage, its worth the walk.

The food is expensive, you are allowed to go back to your car to get your picnic of you thought to bring one.

Take your BMW car key, it gets you on to the top of the BMW stand.

Don't expect to see everything in 1 day, you just can't.

Take spending money, lots of traders to help you spend your money!

I have been a few times,it really is good but is huge and plenty to cover..

Don't fall into the trap of trying to get accommodation as close as possible.. it's all inflated pricing... get somewhere 20 miles away and drive into goodwood

Re hotels,,,book now, most already have bookings ahead. You might want to consider some where else like Bognor but still book soonest
 
Its a great day put I went a couple of years ago on the Sunday.

Get there early would be my first bit of advice. Be prepared for a long wait when leaving as the queue out the car park doesn't move quickly. Well worth taking a quick walk round the public supercar car park if you get chance.

There is so much to see I don't think you will be disappointed.
 
Thursday will be the quietest day for sure Jon. There will be far less celebs there. Some of the cars won't be there either, though most will. It's quite a drive up and back. There can be a fair que to get in, but it usually moves along. Well worth it. :thumbsup:

I was supposed to go last year, but ended up giving my ticket to my daughter, as her fiancee was going, with our son and hadn't spotted it was their 10th anniversary. :lol: (Plonker)
 
If it's hot and dry it's a total dustbowl, especially if you watch the rally, so bring your desert gear. Also bring full waterproofs. :D

As above, get there early and plan what you want to see. Personally, I've been caught out trying to cover all the manufacturer stands when I'd much rather have watched more hill climbs and had more time in Style et Luxe etc. It's only going to get bigger this year too.

Thanks for the replies, well I have booked my Goodwood Festival of speed tickets and you were right most places close are already booked up, ended up in a premier inn in Gosport which is 25/30 miles away but no problem will still get there early and haven't been to Gosport since my Submarine days, may even visit the Submarine Museum.
