Good evening from Hampshire

Welcome to the forum Lawrence.

Both engines seem pretty bulletproof, it only tends to be ancillaries like starter motors, alternators, etc. that die. Although the 2006 facelifts have an electric water pump that will die at some point causing overheating within a mile, and new ones cost £250 to £300, you'll probably only need to replace it once.

If the 2006 2.5Si is a Sport model it will have the M-Sport seats which are very desirable but are very rare on pre-facelift models and tend to sell for £600/700 or so on here.

All 3 litres have electric seats with driver's memory as well as headlight washers although they are a PITA as they often leak!

Spec is a big factor as nobody seems to want an E85 without heated seats, and Xenons are sought after.

Beyond that it comes down to mileage, condition, service history and price.

If you post links to adverts on here you'll get some helpful advice.

Welcome to the forum Lawrence. Heated seats a must in the E85 and avoid the original sat Nav, if you can. Engines are both reliable. Personally I prefer the tail lights on the face lift cars too.

The 2.5Si (n52) and 3.0 (m54) engines have very different power characteristics. Drive them both to see which you prefer. Pick of the bunch is the 3.0Si, but there aren’t many of those around and tend to be priced at a significant premium.

If you cast your net a bit wider, don’t discount the 2.5i (m54) where there are plenty of bargains to be had, or the 2.5i (n52) which can be upgraded to 2.5Si spec for the cost of a replacement inlet manifold.

Thank you for the replies and greetings.
The 2004 3.0 that I’m looking at does have the original satnav although I’m not sure if it’s working.
Would this make it harder to update the head unit?
Many thanks
