Good afternoon to all - I've been lurking on the forum

for a couple of months now as I weigh up whether or not to go for a Z4 as the next car (my other choice was a TT 3.2 Quattro - which sounds great and has a beautifully made interior, but just didn't make me feel the same on the test drive I went on).

Anyway, I have just put a deposit down on an '07 3.0si Roadster in Montegoblau. 46,000 miles on the clock. It's got a couple of kerb marks on the alloys and tiny (barely noticeable) marks by the fuel filler cap and on the rear bumper. However, that's it. Pick her up on the 27th :-)

I'm PXing my RX8 which has given me 4 years of great, trouble-free motoring. However, I felt it was time for something a little more grown up (and something that does more than 14mpg). The one thing I didn't test on the test drive, however, was the stereo. The RX8 has a fantastic Bose soundsystem but I had the Zed's on mute the whole time!

Welcome to the forum! Sounds like you've picked a nice one!

Montego Blue roadsters are lovely. What colour is the interior? Do you have any pictures? We love a picture.... :)
As for the wheels, these can be re-furbed if the kerbing troubles you. What wheels does it have? MV2's? 108's?

Stereos vary. Did it have speakers behind the seats did you notice? The entry level system in the E85 wasn't great but the upgraded ones sound pretty good.

Look forward to seeing your car and hearing more about it when you collect it.

Autotrader now. I'll be sure to post some pictures of my own once it's in my possession. It has the MV2s on it at the moment. I'd like to upgrade to some CSL wheels at some stage, though not urgently.

And it's black inside. On the test drive the lady from the garage told me to go easy because the mobile police camera had been out and about lately. Meant that I couldn't be as, shall we say, enthusiastic, as I'd perhaps have liked. Still, it's a 130 mile drive back from the dealer. Perhaps I'll get a chance to put her through her paces on the way home.

Well the 3.0Si is lovely and very quick so I am sure you will love it.
On a day like today with the top down and the sun shining, plus the straight 6 noise - you can't beat it!

That's a relatively low mileage - good find.

I'm sure you will love it - what tyres does it have non run flats I hope?

:driving:

I must confess that I didn't check that (more embarrassingly - I'm not sure I'd know how to check). What I do know is that they have a lot of tread left on them - they can't have done more than a couple of thousand miles. Surely the previous owner wouldn't have put new run flats on??!

If it does, then perhaps it's a good opportunity to change the alloys as well.

Welcome to the forum!

I had an S3 (same gen as the TT you were considering) and you've definitely made the right choice!

The stereo in mine is the basic one, but perfectly good. Hardly use it since I have the roof down the majority of the time!

Welcome along. The 3.0si is a beaute', I'm sure you'll have plenty of fun years with it! The noise of the 3.0si engine purrs nicely with the foam out of the sound generator (something to look up if you haven't), so if you don't like the stereo drive faster :driving:

Welcome Rich, sounds like a lovely Zed you have there, enjoy :driving: & get cracking with the pics as soon as you collect her

Am guessing you've gone for the one at JDT Autos? I test drove that 2 months ago. Wrote up a bunch of reasons i gave it a miss in response to another poster asking about it. Trust the ticking from the engine is sorted now (common, but can be expensive to fix) and it had MOT advisories that had not been addressed by previous owner. Yes the alloys needed doing and the chip in the windscreen too. Also - the dealer set up was very dodgy to say the least. Not trying to put you off - there are not many to choose from. You have to take your chances somewhere I guess !

Do hope it works out ok - was a lovely car and the colour is great.

here's some pics from my reccie.. and vid of the ticking sound that worried me.

Sounds nice , MB a great Z colour in either R or C form .
Don't epect to be WoWed with the hi fi though  even if the car has the DSP set up the Zs highpoint is most definitely not the music delivery
Sure you will enjoy the rest of it though

That ticking noise would worry me - the bonnet to front panel is uneven !
Yes it's an attractive looking car but let the buyer beware. Do a lot of research before you part with any cash.

That's the one. I can't say that I noticed any ticking noise. However, I didn't have the bonnet up with the engine running. Perhaps I could have missed it considering I don't know what 'normal' should sound like. Do we know what that noise typically is?

They have the normal mechanical noise that you would expect do big lumps of metal flying about at 800 rpm but in a refined manner. It's difficult to describe a noise - best go to another dealer (or one of us) to hear another one is my advice.
The wonky shut line also concerns me. I'm sure mine wasn't like that. Has it been bumped I wonder?

I meticulously went through all of the receipts and there is no evidence of it. Obviously they could have just opted not to put the receipt in!

Having done some searching on the ticking on here - it seems it could be the HVA issue? When I test drove it it was warm and I didn't notice any ticking at all? I read that it makes no difference to performance but if it is still doing it then I'd like to understand if it's a major issue or not?

Main dealer history - due a service now (only been 8k miles since the last one but over 2 years now). They are doing this before I collect it....

Your thoughts? Hope I don't find them too troubling!
