Tyre fitter told me I should avoid Halfords tyre repair spray (I've got two cans of the stuff in the boot) and get some water based repair spray. Anyone know about this - do I need to get something else to replace the halfords?

I use Slime, it is water based so it doesn't p1ss the tyre fitters off as they can just wash it off your tyres before carrying out the repair, Halfords stuff is oil based and creates a right mess on the inside of your alloys and tyres and is a right pain to clean off.
I have slime in my new tyres, so if I get a puncture it will repair it on the fly.

If you leave it in the tyre, how much indication do you get if you have a puncture?
Never had a puncture to speak of, but according to the website, the slime is bright green, so if it repairs a small puncture you get a small green dot where it's filled the puncture, you can then take the tyre for repair, and as slime is water based it is easy to clean off.
I have a friend who works at a tyre fitters and he said that water based systems are fine, oil based systems can mean 30 minutes just trying to clean the tyre in order to make a repair.
I have used slime in some AMG alloys I had a on a merc, one of them just wouldn't make a perfect seal to the rim and would go down (albeit very slowly), I put in some slime and it never went down again.
I don't think slime is any better or any worse than other systems, but it is one system that won't upset the tyre fitters.

Stuart - advice I had was do not use this stuff with low profile tyres as it cannot flow equally around the tyre due to the reinforcing ribs, and will cause vibration. I have it in the wife's Passat (which are standard large wall tyres) and it works fine - never had a puncture and pressure stays constant.
This is the company I used...
2 cans of Slime in the boot for me as it's water based and supposedly easy clean up...I also carry a plug kit, a small slime pump, a cell phone and an auto club card. The nails are scared stiff and don't attack my tires anymore....the nails stick to attacking run flats tires as they are easier prey.
Thanks all - I'll research these alternatives - fits with what the tyre fitter told me - what can I do with my Holts?!
