Golf GTI Ed 30 v Focus ST-220

Given the choice between the 2 vehicles which one would you choose?

Performance times are pretty similar, both front wheel drive, both roughly same BHP so given the choice which would be sitting on your drive way?

Golf no question.

I know the ST can be tuned easily to stupid-bhp and it handles, but overall the Golf does more for me. Much nicer interior design too.

GTI, although I think I'd rather have a normal one, don't really like the Edition 30 wheels or colour coding, prefer the black bumper bits.

Golf GTi Edition 30 is much nicer looking than the Focus ST, but... The 5-pot in the ST sounds fantastic!

I'd personally bin both of those ideas and get an Astra VXR though. Cheapest, fastest, and best looking. It's a no brainer, to me.

ED30 every time without question. I've had one and a normal MKV Gti as well as my every day cars. I very very very nearly bought a Pirelli GTI a couple of weeks ago (decided it was too expensive as an every day driver). Huge fan of them. I've also drived the Focus and it's quite good as well. Just the usual fast Ford issues like chavs, the plod and the poor dealers etc.

Interestingly, i also drove the MkVI GTI and wasn't that impressed. The new engine lacks character and the car feels almost exactly like an Audi S3. Now i know that plenty love the Audis, but for me they lack panache and involvement. They're almost too good that they make me feel unconnected, whereas the Golf is the perfect blend of capable car allied with good ride and practicality.

ED30. The car is also more tuneable than the ST if thats your bag. And yes i've had an ST and i'd echo IK's comments in that i preferred the VXR which i had before the Z4M.
