GoMotor Racing Nights
http://www.scottishmotorracingclub.co.uk/go_motor_racing_nights.html

Following on from the success of last year’s GoMotor Racing night, this year we are organising two. Thanks to Club Member John Clark and the John Clark Group we are able to hold them in Aberdeen and Edinburgh. All welcome!

Tuesday 26th November from 6pm – 10pm at BMW Aberdeen Wellington Road Aberdeen AB12 3EW

Thursday 28th November from 6pm – 10pm at Pentland Land Rover Newbridge Edinburgh EH28 8TH

This should appeal to anyone who is interested in getting started in Motor Racing in Scotland. If you have watched trackside and thought - I could do that. Or if you take part in track days and want to know how to take the next step and go racing. If you would like to know about getting started in Karting or if you have been competing in Karting and want to know – what’s next?

The evening will cover the following topics

Getting Started
Karting - Saltire Motorsport
Knockhill Racing Circuit
ARDS and Licence information
Driver Coaching/Mentoring
Networking
Sponsorship

Ok attended this event tonight with the Z4M - yes it went out in the dark during November and everything tonight- it even got driven in the rush hour .

I've got to be honest i didnt know what to expect but there was a lot to see in the confines of the local BMW dealer who had cleared half their dealership out to accommodate a wide variety of Race Cars from the Z4GT3 Ecurie Ecosse Car through the Ecurie Ecosse Jag , a Chevrolet BTCC Car and a large selection of club level cars.

I spoke to one of the drivers of the GT3 Z4 who told me the car probably has the most downforce in its class but struggles a little against the 458s down the straights but the car is excellent in the wet. the engine is bored our E9X M3 V8 . I told him we would follow next years progress -longer term goal is a Le Mans entry .

I had a long chat with the guy who is compering in an S54 CSL engined E36 M3 , he's mates with a few guys ( take a bow easty-5) on here and misses his Z4M coupe  , the E36 is being sponsored by the local sunday morning meet up for petrol heads .

I really liked this MX-5 Roadster that you can obtain for about 5k race prepared for a season - which got me thinking i must admit .

In the rest of the showroom there was a 1M, M3 and two M5s - i must admit i really liked the silverstone M5 -lovely car

very interesting event and could be worth going to the EDI event on thursday ... but the best bit driving my S54 Z4M top down all the way home :driving:

Nice post Zermatt. I must admit going racing is something I fancy doing too at some stage.

Has tonight's event whetted the appetite further?

i must admit the MX-5 series was of some interest to me - although my job means i spend a good deal of time away from home so to have to commit to a series which means I need to make certain weekends at the track is probably not realistic for me in the next couple of years.

I think Marshalling is something i could get involved in more easily at this stage and perhaps some track training sessions in the meantime.

it was clear from the interviews done with the GT3 drivers that these guys have started at a young age karting .

PS- the driver of the E36 Track car reckoned his Z4M had been much better than his E9X M3

But a good event - i would say it was perhaps not as inclusive as it could be and they did seem to be preaching to the converted - i think i was in the minority at the event in that Im not involved in motorsport , so getting information on how to get involved with the SMRC was not so easy.

If anyone is interested in the Edinburgh event its being held at Pentland Landrover ( owned by the John Clark Group )

That chap with the E36 wasn't flatout was it? Ex-Z4MC owner and once of this Forum? The only reason i ask is because there's a Flat Out sticker on the rear spoiler and you mentioned he'd gone from a Z4MC to an E92 M3.

I don't thjink so but he was at the wheel in Easty-5s Z4MR Below

I was at Knockhill yesterday for my second trackday in the M. Some of you may remember I started a thread last time about how awful it was and how skitterish the car was. Well since the last trackday I have replaced the rear tyres with Michelin Supersports and put new disks on all round and EBC Bluestuff NDX pads all round. It absolutely transformed the car. It was wet all day yesterday and the car was awesome. I couldn't provoke the rear out of shape with TC on. It would just understeer, most likely because my rear tyres now have more grip than the fronts.

Anyway, I will post some vids once they have uploaded to youtube. Here is the first. My friend (Who also Races competitively in a CSL powered E36) took my out in my car to show me how to drive it properly! :driving:

(We left a BMW 1M for dust, after it almost rear ended us at ~2.08mins 8) )

I will post more pics and vids later this afternoon.
