Glad I did not get a Jeep

That was actually on the network news a few months ago. I also recall a follow up story that they got to keep their jobs. I hope that is the exception and not the rule. I really like Jeeps (Wrangler Only) and may even get another one some day.

I also had 2 Jeeps as my company cars (one of them was an Orvis Edition in 1997) and loved them both. I am thinking of changing the family car to something like a Jeep. I saw the 2011 Grand Cherokee last week, I told the salesman this is a lot better than what I had in 1997 and sold in 2000. He agreed and said the new Jeep interior is finished with the Audi as a reference point. The quality was very good.

I may still get that Jeep (2 of my friends tell me [they do contract work at a local Ford plant] that similar things go on at Ford and GM so one never knows does one. We can only hope that the QA inspection and final tests reveal any shortcomings as far as quality is concerned.

Is it typical of American news reporter to shout at you during their coverage?! We brits prefer hearing the facts, not what some idiot thinks about the whole thing. He shouted about the government bailout about 20 times. The government bailout went to the company, it doesn't go toward beer and drugs for the workforce. That's just plain ridiculous to draw that comparison. :| Seems to be just a small group of individuals who did this, so saying that the government shouldn't have helped the company when so many people rely on it, including the supply chain, it just annoying. :x

The people involved should be disciplined. I don't think they should lose their jobs, and it's irresponsible to show their faces on network television and put their families' lives in jeopardy. The company could/should take measures to ensure this doesn't happen.

Anyway, to answer your question, this probably happens in a lot of companies, not just auto manufacturers. Working for an OEM in the UK, and working quite closely with some of the guys on the track from time to time, I can safely say I have not seen anything like this before. Also, we didn't receive a bailout, just a lot of empty promises

Anyway, rant over.

I think it's the mixture of 'weed' and 3+ litre bottles if booze that stirred the presspack

Bwahahahahaha. it's hilarious how as time goes by, GM and Chrysler look more and more like BL during the 1970s.

Seriously? You think our media really are any better? Ours are just as happy to jump on a band wagon and blow a story completely out of proportion. Watchdog for example? Having said that, this is also Fox News, which isn't real news at all, it's Republican propaganda :)

I think you CAN draw a comparison though. It was the livelihoods of union workers that the bailout was designed to save. The union situation over there (Americans, feel free to fill in here) is just like British Leyland in the 70s, or British Airways now; the UAW have a strangle hold. Salary and pension obligations guaranteed during the boom years that cannot be maintained, staff who earn many times more than non unionized staff at Toyota, etc etc...of course slacking staff taking the **** in a climate of austerity and cut backs is going to get peoples backs up and ultimately make a great news story.

Too many people think they world 'owes' them a living.

What was interesting is that the driver was drinking as well, what is the drink drive limit?

Any thing more than 4 beers (32 oz) in 1 hour for an average sized man would put you close or even over the legal limit of .08.
