Ghost Whistle

Hi guys,

I've had this noise for a couple weeks that has been described as a ghost whistle.

After searching the forum I was directed to the air intake and item 5 on the relevant realoem.com image of the set up. So I had a look on my lunch there and could see that there was indeed a rip in the rubber boot; specifically, the smaller pipe.

I just wanted to ask if there would be any damage caused for not knowing about this and if i should not drive it until I replace the part. I phoned the place that is often recommended - Sopers of Lincoln - and they gave me a price of £21.88 delivered.

Looks like it’s just those screw clip fittings that hold the pipework together, is it as simple as removing them to replace the part?

Is your 'check engine' light on?

If not, it will come on eventually and you will have to reset this. I drove mine around (nothing major < 10 miles) and didn't push it to hard. If the light isn't on and you don't have a OBD2 reset device / cable / software probably best to change the part first before driving.

I replaced mine last year and it took about 10 mins, very easy, although there isn't too much space around that area. It's simply large adjustable clips, push the hoses on, slip the clips over and tighten using a screw driver.
 
Nope, no light on thankfully.

Is it because of a lack of pressure that the light would come on? If so, would duck taping the rip be a good idea? Until I get the part I mean.
 
I don't believe that you should worry about driving the car until it is fixed. I was driving mine for months before i locate the source of it and fix it without any problem.
 
Drove mine at high speed all around the Lakes until it was diagnosed that evening on camp. Drove it another 500 miles until home and the part ordered and fitted.

Makes not a jot of difference.

Real fiddle to fit to get all the other parts removed and then the clamps correctly located to seal everything.
