Hi Guys

So what is the tyre of choice for the Z?, and do I stay at the same profile 255 30 19 ?…..or do I risk the traction control warning coming on if the side wall profile is increased

Thanks for reading my post guys

Nick, if you plan on keeping the same suspension and rims, the same tyre size in NRF will fit and run without a problem. You may even consider to go up one width size. But if you plan on other suspension and rims, then tyre size matters. I’m happy with the specs below. YMMV. And remember you will want to carry a patch kit and a pump. Disregard the resident clown uttering nonsense about what’s allowed or not. You want to get home, full stop. Good luck.

Hi Marcoose

Thank you for replying, what the brand should I go for or does it not matter that much?

Nick, are you changing all your tyres? You’re only quoting one size and that’s the stock rear sizes.

When I changed my 35iS 19’s from RFT’s I went up a width F&R, therefore increasing the sidewall slightly.

I went to 235/35/19 F and 265/30/19 R I went for Michelin MPS4S’s on many recommendations on here and it totally transformed the car. Not the cheapest but definitely the best tyres handling wise I’ve had  HTH

Hi Andy

Thank you for responding, yes I will be changing all the tyres, I only gave the rears as a talking point, so increasing the width slightly increases the side wall, thats interesting, Im assuming because of a bigger foot print?

Because the second number shows the profile as a percentage of the width, so wider tyres with the same profile will increase sidewall height by that percentage of the width increase. (NB. this is a nominal figure and can look different on different makes of tyre, depending how square the tyre shoulder is.)

HI Martin

Thats very interesting, wow....... "ouch"...... those tyres prices are something else :o

Nick, brand and model is very subjective. I also have PS4S and love it. But it depends on what you want and your driving style. Things to consider: price, noise, hardness, mileage, traction, comfort, suspension, road condition, etc. For example, if this was my daily commuter and putting 50K miles per annum, it’s possible I would’ve chosen a different tyre. Actually, perhaps even keeping the RFs. TBH, tyres aren’t my expertise. I know my limits.

Not sure what sizes are available, but I have 18" Goodyear Assy 5s on mine and am more than happy with them.

Black circles got a 15% discount and doing above fitted at £743 fitted.

If you don’t want the cost of the Michelin Dunlop, Vredi’s, (and others) get a good name and may be worth a look/comparison

Having bought [ref]Argyll Andy[/ref]'s 35is I agree that the Michelin PS4S are excellent. Word of warning though, my rears are probably not going to make it to 12,000 miles before needing replacement (not down to MOT fail depth, but what's the point in having high performance tyres if you're going to let them get that low?).

£200ish each isn't cheap, but as the guy at my local dealer pointed out, some of the bigger BMW's have tyres costing £600 each, so it could be worse.

Hi Guys

I will probably go with the Michelins, Its not going to be a daily driver, but a fun car for hooning about in, so the tyres will last some time, the rears are quite bad now previous owner ran them to almost the canvass.

Fantastic responses again from you guys, Im learning more as each day passes

The most commonly used phrase on here when referring to tyres. I love it.
No-one ever specifies what 'it transformed' into, though. A pile of crap, a steam barge, a 19 year old nympho?? :D

I put some Landsails on one of my cars; £50 a corner. They transformed the car..... :o

Aye, all right smart @rse :poke:

[ref]Nick7602[/ref], for the appeasement of that fecker [ref]Pondrew[/ref], the car came on new Bridgestone RFT’s. I changed the for Michelin’s quoted. This TRANSFORMED the car from a crashy, tramlining, noisy, uncomfortable drive, which you were never 100% confident you were going to exit a corner facing the right way, to a car which was quieter, held the road much better, no tramlining, and most importantly for me gave the grip and confidence that the car was going to comply when being driven spiritedly.

Hopefully that explanation with meet with [ref]Pondrew[/ref], approval because he’s a :stir: :stir: :stir:

I see that [ref]tiglon[/ref], has commented after me and he is in a much better position to advise re wear rate etc as he’s put many more miles in the tyres than I did. I have to say my G29 has Michelin Pilot SuperSports which in the warm and dry are a step up from the 4S’s BUT if replacing I’d go to 4S’s I think as a better all round tyre in the wet and cold. Re mileage I’ll be delighted to see 10k out of my current set as they are wearing quite quickly but most of the miles have been completed on forum runs

Thank you Andrew, although there really was no need. I WAS JOKING
I couldn't give a toss TBH, if it's black and round, holds air and is cheap it'll do for me!

Of course I knew you were but thought maybe the OP would, as you kindly pointed out, appreciate a more comprehensive explanation of that commonly used phrase

Writing that on a car forum is akin to walking into a church and proclaiming "God is a tosser". I am offended and outraged.
