While it's not to my taste, and the triple exhaust are perhaps a little excessive, it's the variety of life and people that makes the world such a fantastic place to live.

Reminds me of a few years ago :- I was washing my car (then a Mondeo with 2 exhausts) when the next door neighbours kid was out playing, he was pretty young - can't remember how old but primary/first school age. He cycled over to tell me that his cousin's Corsa was faster than my car, because it had 4 exhausts not 2.
I think as a general rule,
BMW have employed multiple designers, artists and engineers to build a car that will look good to most people.
They probably tried multiple variations just to see and rejected them all except the one they release plus the model variations. They give a few mods to allow for individual taste. They hold back on some so that they can freshen the look over the product life cycle. Design pure impulse, design pure balance and pure White design for instances or the GT3 even. There is also a reason why the launch colour is deep sea blue on e89.
Anything more is more likely to detract from the car rather than add. Caveat being simple performance upgrades.
So it is very unlikely that one person in a shed will come up with a modified car that has more UNIVERSAL appeal than the stock.
Exception that proves the rule: fiat multipla, can be improved most efficiently by having a skip dropped on it from a great height.
