German River Cruise

I'm currently enjoying a river cruise through Europe. We started in Dusseldorf, sailed up the Rhein to Koblenz then switched to the Main. Took the Main-Danube canal (highest ship canal in the world) to Kelheim then onto the Danube.

I love Germany and have been here many times before, but this has been a real eye-opener to its beauty. If anyone on here likes medieval cities, palaces and good beer (who doesn't?), then I can recommend the towns of Bamberg, Regensburg and Passau. They luckily pretty much survived the visits by the RAF and are stunningly beautiful.

Strange thing is, I've only seen one Z4 E85 during the whole trip :?

Germany is my usual holiday destination - albeit in the car.
I would say my favourite area is The Black Forest  although the Eifel near Koblenz is very pleasant.

The scenery looks lovely - hope you have a great cruise.

Nice thing about Bamberg and Regensburg is that although these are UNESCO world heritage cities, they are not overcrowded by tourists like other UNESCO cities like Bruges and such that seem to made up of shops that only sell belgian chocolate and belgian beer...
Most tourists in Regensburg and Bamberg are probably germans.
It creates a good atmosphere in these cities and it makes it easy to interact with the locals.
They are still hidden gems.

My main haunt is Staufen im Breisgau

There is a Wein Fest in August- thats just and additional reason for going!
