Hi, i recently added new number plates to my car. I got them made up using the font that is found on German number plates... i'm afraid this is about as far as customized plates go in Ireland...

Hi,
Car looks good. I have similar style plates. This style of font seems to be legal in Ireland (as long as you have the dashes either side of the 'D' and the county name on top). I have yet to go through the Ireland Car test (MOT / NCT) but I have been told the plates should be ok to pass.

Not 100% sure but I believe the German font style plates are not legal in the UK.

Thanks for your comments. I put standard plates on my car 3 weeks ago when it was going in for the NCT. The car failed on a rear spring so i had to bring it back to them again the following week once i had the spring replaced. I was told that they would only be checking the spring so i cheekly put the "German" plates on... however when the guy was waiting to put my car on the ramp, he called two other guys over and started pointing at my plate... oh oh i thought... the 3 of them went off into a room, came back out and started wiping my number plates, then one of them stuck a "Baile Atha Cliath" (county name - for those of you outside of Ireland) over the D to make it what i presume as legal... as soon as he handed me the cert, i went outside and ripped the stickers back off :P

Very funny Mark….. There was the NCT guy thinking he was doing you a favour!!!

I hope you at least waited until he wasn’t able to see you before you ripped the sticker off!!
