Genesis Premium Sound Upgrade Package - Pair of 6X9 Subs and Genesis Amp

Hi,
Here's a very good sound upgrade if you have the basic (6 speaker) Z4 sound system and wish to continue to use your original head unit.
I wanted to keep the OEM look but improve sound - This solution does just that. Package worth over £500 when first bought.

Package comprises of:
A pair of 6X9 Genesis Subs (They are about a year old, I don't think you can buy them anymore, They were orginally designed for the BMW Mini. No grill covers)

Genesis Amp - Profile Sub: 1 x 350W at 4 ohms / 1 x 500W at 2 ohms. http://www.genesis-ice.com/

David Navone N-RHL2 Line Output Converter - Connects to your rear speaker to take audio feed and also uses this as the remote to turn amp on. I think it conditions the sound too: http://davidnavone.com/cart.asp?14&pid=362

Decent Wiring Kit (you will just need the Amp to Speaker wires as I left this when I sold my Z4 and speaker cables to connect the Line out convertor to the rear speakers).
Speaker cloth - So you can fabricate your existing cubby hole covers.
Push-in wooden Frame for for lower half of boot so that Amp then pushes into frame - no further securing of amp required. Lower half of boot lining then sits on top of frame so that it now becomes level with raised part of boot.

Fitment
The subs go in the rear cubby holes as per this thread (thanks Richard! http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=14499&p=214711&hilit=genesis#p214641) You can just use 1 layer of 18mm wood cut to suitable shape for the subs to screw into. There are holes already around the cubby hole frame to bolt the wood onto so no drilling required on your beloved car! Feed suitable speaker cables from the cubby hole into the boot. I re-used the original cover trim on the cubby hole and just cut off the inside rim and covered it all in speaker cloth - looks OEM and you can still clip it on and off.
The Amp sits in the first lower half of the lower boot and with the wooden frame that I made, the Amp sits snug and does not move around so no need to secure the amp. I've also made the frame so that the lower half of the boot lining will now sit level with the raised back half so it looks OEM'ish.

The David Navone N-RHL2 Line Output Converter needs to be tapped into the rear speaker wires which can be accessed from the boot. You also need 12V power for this LOC, the cable for this to connect to battery with in line fuse is included.

Sound description.
Sound quality is greatly improved over stock and you feel the sound on your back!
The Manufacturer describes these subs as similar to a 10" sub but in my opinion that's over exaggerated. - they are more like an 8" Sub.
The Amp has already been setup after speaking directly to the founder of the Genesis company.

I'm happy to give telephone support if you need any help on installing.

Just to make you aware there is power to the rear speakers as soon as you unlock the Z4 and a little time after locking it so during these times the amp will switch on. I first thought that something was wrong with my install and the Amp was on permanently!

Due to me being clueless and I mean absolutely clueless on installing anything I would have taken this bundle off your hands for sure. However, I'd have my hand off tryingto manufacture materials to install this kit, shame I didn't live closer as I'd of paid you a decent sum to install it too.

Where abouts are you located?

How do you wire from the Head unit to the boot?

Cheers

Hi Chris,

I'm in Farnborough, North Hampshire, Junction 4a on M3.

Included in the sale is a 'David Navone LOC' which is a device to convert speaker signals to RCA/Lineout and also a remote out to automatically switch the amp on. So you need to tap into the rear speaker wires (Rear speakers continue to function as before) which is accessible from the boot, then join this feed to the LOC. The LOC takes a 12v feed from the battery (dedicated wire connection for battery with fuse included). you will now have RCA/phono output and remote output for the amp. I think this 'LOC' is only suitable for non digital speakers so only for the basic 6 speaker Z4 sound system not the DSP or Z4 with more speakers. You will need to purchase some speaker cable as I left them in the car when I sold it so the new owner could easily fit their own additional speakers.

Thanks

Sorry, I missed magicgregs post.

Thats a shame mate as it's a quality and very DISCREET sound upgrade as you dont lose boot space apart for space for the amp. No drilling on anywhere of the Z4 is required as there are already factory holes to feed cables through and even to mount the sub baffle board in the cubby hole. If you have any friends or family who might be able to help you then I'm happy to give you telephone support too and guide them.

See post http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=29454&p=401649&hilit=genesis#p401649 for additional pictures of the mounted amp and subs. The 5thThumbnail pic is of the mounted amp and original cover - looks factory fitted apart from the ventilation hole on the cover that I made. The lower half of the boot becomes same height as rest of boot.

More pictures added of this package fitted to my old Z4. Auction ends Sunday. This is the best option for a discreet quality sound upgrade as it all looks OEM and only a small amount of space taken up in the boot for the Amp.

Cheers
