Gearing on a 2.5

Hi all,
New member to the forum so apologies if this has been asked before.
I'm looking at a 2.5l z4 and noticed that it only has 5 gears rather than 6. What was BMWs reasoning behind that when the others are 6 speed?
Also how does the 2.5 drive? Does it feel like 5 gears is enough or does it feel like it needs another gear?
All of the 3.0l I have seen are either automatics or out of my price range so2.5 or 2.2 is my choice.

Thanks
Andy

the 2.5 runs at 3k rpm at 70. and has the same fuel economy as the 3.0 at 70 in sixth. 3.0 pop up all the time and cost the same as the 2.5 and are normally preferred as everyone likes more power. the 2.5 does get better MPG in a urban environment though
