Gear change difficulty

Has anyone had a problem with gear changing on the E 89?
Yesterday I could not engage reverse , played about with the gear stick and eventually got gear .
Having had E85 mood swings but didn't expect similar with nearly new ?.
Any thoughts ?.

It could be a variety of things. Are there any other symptoms that could help narrow it down? Any strange noise from anywhere?

It might be worth getting it to the point where it should engage, holding it there and switching off the engine. If it then slides into gear, it could be clutch drag. if not, then the linkage or selectors may be at fault. This is described within the BMW ISTA/D technical reference system.

Took it to supplying dealer and workshop controller test drove with me and confirmed the gear change is normal so that's helped as he said most 6 cilinder manuals are made that way so I'm satisfied ( at the moment )?.

If it happens again, release the clutch pedal-this will spin the gearbox internals around so when you depress the clutch & try again the dogs should be in a different position letting you engage the gear without baulking.
