Gaydon National BMW Festival sat 17th/sun 18th august

Same happened to me. If you provoked you were given a pass to the main part, as we were last year. But this year I just turned up and was directed with the rest to the car park. It's only when I slept with the big Scottish lady at the gate, she slipped me one after I did the same

I did kind of have to beg for one, a pass that is, and she was feeling kind, and gave me one (a pass that is)

But not as well organised as last year, but still pretty good

it was new management or organisers or something and Gaydon council were involved apparently... stopping the parking in the grounds and making everyone without a 'show pass' park in the Jag overflow car park. seriously stupid move, there was so many awesome cars in the car park and not in the grounds, just money grabbing thats all.. and it will kill the show unless they sort it out for next year.

There was so few Zeds in the show space, only myself and Neil, Ray and a few others. Thanks Ray again for letting me borrow your pass! Legend!

Heres some of my Zed in case you havent seen enough already... oh and a very happy wife!

I think that the BMW Carclub organizers are the culprits here, if you are not a member of said club you did not get to park up in the display areas.
I am a member so when i booked my tickets in advance i was sent a pass for the zed display area. So turning up on the day meant you were in the overspill parking area. Underhand way of getting peole to join the BMW CAR CLUB. I did see quite a few people in the organizers tent joining up and complaining about having to park in the overspill. But a good weekend allround i thought. Apart from the coniving show judges on saturday, judging their own cars, pffft. Mark, don`t you mean LEG.....END,

Also i would like to say that neal`s car is an absolute stunner, you have to see it in the flesh, the finish on that car is superb, that orange with the black wheels, wow what head turner, when we left we followed neil out and i admit to feeling a bit jealous. Even the wife said "don`t like orange cars but i`d have that one".

+1  Had a really good look round it at Silverstone a few weeks back. It's stunning in the flesh. Photos don't do it justice.

I'm not sure why you feel that non-BMWCCGGB members should, or would want to, display their cars at the BMWCCGB's National Festival. You may be raising a valid point about where the public car park was located (and I will communicate the concerns to the club) however there is not an 'underhand' campaign to get non-members to join. Far from it, our efforts at the Silverstone Classic have illustrated the Club's commitment to bring non-club members into the fold for an event and to demonstrate some of the benefits of membership. Similarly there are some clubs that prearrange to have an area at the National Festival. Surely there comes a point at which those that organise themselves prior to the event get some benefit over those that just turn up on the day?

The point i make is,if you are not a member of the BMWCCGB then you park in the overspill, many cars in the queue to get in to the event (nearly all BMW`S) were turned away, most clearly thinking they were allowed to park in front of the museum and directed to the alternative parking. Correct me if i`m wrong, at last years event all were allowed in, i was but was not a member at that time. Good point about prearranging ourselves (this forum) for future BMWCCGB events, such as Gaydon, just like silverstone, because i feel the Gaydon event is the no1 event of the year, ie it`s exclusively BMW. Just one of the reasons why i joined the club.

At the end of the day it is a bmwccgb event - so I don't see why people are surprised they didn't get on the show ground .

On the other hand I think the car club could do a lot more to reach out to Z4 owners - there is a thriving meets scene organised through here but I hear of little or no meet activity through the Zed register - which seems a little Z3 biased to say the least.

In my monthly Z Register news i constantly ask members what they want from the Z register, i've even asked if members want meets, cruises etc. In 2 years you are the first to give me ANY feedback on this so thanks for that, what do other BMWCCGB members think?

I've noted your z3 bias comment. We do have e85/6 and e89 registrars although I recognise that they are not particularly vocal in the magazine or on here. Seems like there is an appetite to hear about the BMWCCGB so I'll ask them to do something about that.

I m sorry if my comments came across a little negative as im aware you all put a lot of time into the club-but I do see a big disconnect between bmwccgb and most Z4 owners on here for some reason - I've entered the debate because I feel there is a place for both informal forum meets and more formal club events . I've enjoyed taking my Z4 to one or two bmwccgb events this year and would urge others to do the same - and it certainly opens doors to events that informal forums don't get invites to.

In terms of material for Z registrar in straight six - I'm sure the coupe crowd could do a piece on how superior their car is to all us roadster owners

Thanks for your reply - perhaps it might be worth opening the debate up in a new thread about what Z4 owners would want to see out of Z Registar and bmwccgb in general ?

Some good points on here but I do feel as well that if you want to get involved in BMWCCGB events you've got to make some effort yourselves too. I've been to a few of the NE region events (a rolling road day and dealership tour) and done threads on both trying to drum up interest and nobody other than Darren has attended. You'll never get to meet your fellow Zed or BMW enthusiasts if you don't take some responsibility to get involved. There are some really good people running these so its a shame more of you don't get involved.

That said I think Neil's concerns should be looked into. His car is stunning in the flesh and perhaps this is where the club can meet people halfway. If people do get involved I think they should be warmly welcomed, be guided so that they are entered into the right event, given hints and tips on how to score well etc and feedback on why they didn't score so well if that was the case, they aren't left feeling isolated as was the case here.

I had no idea the exhibition side was for club members only (Of which I am one)... I guess I'll certainly have to make more effort to get there next year!
