Gas/Petrol saver software?

Does anyone know if there is any chips or software that for example will run the Z4 engine 3 cylinders at a time while at rest or switch between 4-6 cylinders depending on power demand?
There are cars that do that allready now, but I have not come accross anything like this for the Z4

sorry but thias is the dummest topic ever made. Just take the foot off the gas pedal - how is that for fuel saving? If you wanna save gas - fart in a jar.

Have a care about what you say before you post it.

Not everyone here is driving Zs only for pleaseure. Further, there is more the the car then HP or how it sounds, it is a thing of beauty just by it self sitting in the driveway it can inspire you (well maybe not you). if you want to keep your car for another 10 years you have to consider alternatives such as "gas saving software"

I would say that there is nothing wrong with the topic and yours isn't the smartest reply ever posted.

No Rasalon, I haven't heard of anyone mentioned software or even a remap that would increase gas mileage. I think most people get those sort of things done to go faster.
An no worries, this isn't a dumb topic. I think if someone could manage to make something that would let us save gas for the Z, everyone would jump on it. Granted at the cost of loosing some power, probably not.

The only cars capable of doing this, are the ones designed by the manufacturer to do so. A chip or software mod will not do it

Im 18 and I have to count my money and how to invest it all the time, that means that sometimes my Z4 has to wait a few in the garage. Nevertheless, I´m, not over-desperate about this whole gas thing. The only car that can "shut down" its cylinders is the chrysler 300C and that is because of it´s engine anatomy. If someone gets a Z4 he should also be able too keep up with it´s costs, and therefore, if gas is the problem than a Prius would be a wiser choice.

Yes you are right czechT698, It would be unweise to have a car such as this and have gas be an issue. However, there ALWAYS is room for improvement... The "how to" section in this forum is a testiment to that and I don't see this issue any differently... I even have a post or two there! I still think that It would make alot more sence for all gas running cars to reduce gas usage by partially fueling the engines while stopped or when power demand is low. and If I have to be the first one on my block to do such a thing then so be it.
As for me I am 35, marrid, and have a son and I drive my Z to work everytime. I did consider the Prius prior to buying the Z but I had a Miata and knew that I would miss the experience. And no, I don't regret having a Z despite $5 a gallon. I will be sad when gas reaches $10 though. :driving:

The Pious is never a choice - it is less environmentally friendly over its lifespan than many mainstream cars. The MPG also isn't that great compared to many modern fuel efficient cars.

I think the only engines which do displacement on demand have a V configuration and can switch off one whole bank.

You can get decent fuel economy out of the old 3.0 by driving conservatively, I expect the newer ones to be even better with a more advanced engine and the efficient dynamics bmw motors in the latest 330i seem great.

I find the Z4 actually quite frugal compared to the 2.0 Turbo I had previous which averaged 23mpg (uk gallons = 4.54 litres).

I have 3.0si and on the highway I can get around 35 mpg with the cruise control set around 65 MPH... Not bad IMHO...

I drove my Z4M to Owen sound and did between 90-100kph. My milage was 8.7L/100km with translates to 27 miles per US gallon or 32.5 miles per Imperial gallon.

I wish I was getting the millage I keep seeing posted here. I have a 2005 3.0I with Steptronic. My commute to work is around 12.5 miles. I think about half is interstate. On the way in I avarage around 8 stops, 13 on the way home. I'm getting around 20mpg if it is all commuting. Now, if I do mostly road driving and drive reasonably I get closer to 28. Driving the same commute in my Acura I get 23 or so, same horse power and about 500 pounds heavier. :x

It won't cheer you up to know I managed 40mpg (uk gallons) on the way to work yesterday  Thats about 38 miles. Over the last two days it's come down to 36mpg but thats with a good bit of city traffic.
Thats in a 3.0 manual, so none of this small engine=economical, rubbish :fuelfire:

Z44M3, I was driving between 80-100 kph on country roads in 6th gear. If I dice at 120kph (75mph) I get 24 miles per US gallon.
