Garage lighting upgrade

My garage is currently lit by a single incandescent bulb and a single 4' strip light. For a typical 25' 2 car garage it's a bit poor

I tend to use a couple of large portable 500w halogens on 8' tripods if I need intense light to work on, but decided it's time to light it properly

So the obvious is to link up 4 4/5' fluorescent batten lights on the ceiling, but before I do that has anyone any ideas or suggestions on alternative lighting or systems I could look at.

No suggestions for a revolving glitter ball, etc pleeeeeeease :)

I have 5 double 5' lights at the moment, and that still isn't really enough to work with. I have now also bought a battery of LED lights to put in the ceiling as well.

It is going to be like Harrod's lighting soon :)

I should have looked up more in your place than at the fleet :D

Maybe I should go double tube then, given the fitting is the same and cost increase so marginal. Guess I could always run them on different circuits (front and rear of garage, etc.)

Tell me more about the LED's - sounds interesting

I use double fluorescent tubes scrounged from a local store when they upgraded their lighting system (I did ask before I helped myself from the skip!). I have placed 3 units diagonally across the car bay so that boot interior and engine bay are well lit. On the other side three units but diagonally across the work surfaces (re cycled kitchen work tops). Have also put 6 new double socket outlets strategically placed around the garage for power tools etc.
