Gaining access to the bulkhead (Z4MR)

Hi guys

I'm looking to get access to the bulkhead of my Z4MR in order to fit a Bluetooth module to the CD changer cable.

Has anyone done this in an MR with the obvious battery placement issue? See pics for as far as I've made it - two left screws out. What's the middle plastic knob for? It's on a string so I can't remove.

Is it easier to go in from the front?



 
The plastic pull on a string is iirc a release for the cubby storage box, unsure which bt module you've got but most can be plugged in at the back of head unit
 
It's a Grom one I'm planning on fitting - think it needs to go into the CD changer cable which in my case might be DSP - that's why I'm checking it just now to know if I should order the DSP harness as well!
 
I went through the front when I did my Intravee. Although means removing the interior trim it's probably easier.

This is why I said do not pull it!!
It's the release for the lock of the hood to the central console, of which munki boy here pulled!!
No repeat NO Bmw dealer knew how to fix!!

So Maidenhead Bmw gave me M tech and an hour free :)
As 5 said its fine with it flapping about!

This is release inside central cover:)

You must push it to the side and pull cord back in
N tada it locks once roof down:)

Ok this aside,
Cut a X around grommet,
Pull carpet carefully over it, leaving it in place

Pull carpet and backer out the way and that'll reveal the back of the CD unit:)
Two plugs one power one changer

I've got an audiovox media bridge so it simply uses plugs, then I ran the cable down right hand side of
Car to behind driver seat bass speaker, as simply clips out

Then pulled through, speaker cover in place and ran wire along central console pushing it up under plastic against carpet,
Right at front above clutch pedal there's a little lovely flap , lifted it audiovox wrapped in cloth, pushed it in there and run black lightning adapter cable along and under console front and sits nicely infront of ashtray and only 4inches showing:)

Ps NEW PULL RED HANDLE IN LEFT OF BOOT

Great - thanks for your he detailed insight! Video is great as well - very clear.

When I pull the carpet away it seems to be glued or stuck to something on he bulkhead - is this normal? I'm guessing it is just because it's not been stripped back before?

Have you in popped the carpet ?
2 plugs each side and I think a bit of glue on edges
Goes back in easily and doesn't show
 
Ps look into what I fitted
Audio vox media bridge
As it has usb for phone etc
Bluetooth and sd slots
As I sit my phone onto of ashtray and it plays my music and comes up on sat nav display:)

Press option and has Bluetooth etc
 
I'm glad you posted as I was planning on pulling the cable loose today! I'll cut around it.

Think it's the glue I felt yesterday which had the carpet stuck down.

I had found the poppers - just took the two on the left out, should be able to get in like that with the battery cover removed as well.

Haha yeah erm don't do that;)

Just get a blade
Put it behind it and do an X with it in middle and pull carpet round it

World of hurt if pull it!
You will see the cd changer in middle and two plugs are easy to see and get out
Just take time :)
 
Thanks - also I wanted a media bridge but they aren't for sale anywhere. Grom seems to be pretty much identical so happy with that. I've not got nav so I'm not looking for anything too fancy - just streaming audio over the Bluetooth.

Had success today - so I have a 6 pin and a 3 pin connector which means I do NOT need a DSP adapter - despite having DSP stereo. Saved £65.

One question - how do you secure the Bluetooth boxes to he bulkhead safely? Tape? Sticky pad? Bracket? Does it get hot - my car has a bunch of polystyrene back there.
 
Hey buddy good boy;)

I'd put it somewhere away from heat then
And I'd either use number plate stickie pads or the sticky Velcro ones:)
