G29

Went to see the G29 today. Beautiful car. I’m thinking of ordering the 3.0 if the better half permits and giving her the E89. With the frosted colours are they more difficult to maintain? Did I read somewhere they tend to chip more easily?

I don’t think they chip any easier Muzza but I believe the frozen paint is all but impossible to touch in or respray small areas without being blindingly obvious. It’s only my opinion but if I was to order frozen I’d be factoring in a full PPF clear wrap to protect it.

Please correct me if I’m wrong anyone on the touching in. :)

Don’t be put off by matte paint finish on the G29. I was very concerned prior to purchase but my Frozen Orange looks absolutely stunning and is probably the easiest paintwork I’ve ever had to look after. Using specific products that don’t add shine, it’s so easy to look after as not constantly striving for the elusive shine. I’ve also used a Chipex kit on minor chips as well and it’s worked really well. Obviously deep scratches may be more of an issue but very happy with my G29 in matte so far.

Can’t get better than an actual owner with experience.

Might be saying something different John if it ever gets any significant damage but so far no worries. :D

Just be careful with bugs or bird poo or anything that is likely to mark the paintwork. I saw two frozen grey ones (At dealerships) where marks had been left and then were ‘etched’ into the paintwork.

As mentioned, it’s also hard to touch in or paint correct. Whole panels will need to be resprayed if they’re damaged.
When clean they look fantastic but it’s just a whole different way to think about dealing with a car. No polishing or anything that will add shine can be used.

The M40i is a glorious car though, good choice to have on the radar.

I don’t think it’s actually a 3.0 is it, I thought the 30i had the same 2.0 engine as the 20i uses but running a more powerful ecu map :?

Correct Smartbear. 20i and 30i are both 2.0 petrol with different mapping to give different power outputs. The M40i is the only variant with a 3.0.

I have a frozen grey M40i, I did get a chip on the front, I went to the BMW dealer before lockdown and they didn’t supply a touch up stick, after a lot of pushing they supplied me a pot match. However they said that the frozen finish comes on the last coat, so what they supplied me was the base colour. Anyway to get to the point it does match, I can only tell there is a chip there because I know it’s there, you step back from the car and it’s gone. After going through that I reluctantly decided to PPF the car as I want keep long term.

My apologies on the engine size! Meant the 30i 🙄

Anyway thanks for feed back on the paint. Especially the bird poo! I live in Aberdeen and the seagulls splatter everything so that is a concern!

There are some good deals online at present, if considering the PCP route.
BMW UK have a new stock search on the website, that gives the discounts also.

Thanks. I saw the pcp offers. I’ve had pcp before but swore never again 😂 each time their own. Have a polo GTI as trade in so hopefully get a decent deal on HP in this climate. Double bonus if the missus takes the E89 as I don’t have to part with it 👍👍
