Just about figured out all the toys but this may sound a bit stupid but, do you have to have the radio turned on to get her to respond?

It works amazingly well with the radio on but zero response when off. Am I missing something?

On mine I can have anything on, as long as something is on even if it is board computer

Thanks, I have the maps on the Home Screen but the sat nav not in use and she doesn’t respond. As soon as I turn the radio on she works. Will try something else and see what happens.

The driver mic locates at the top of A-pillar, so try to speak to that area and see how it goes. I find it's harder to activate compared to my G31 and potentially, it's the background noise in z4 while driving is louder than 5 series so the system may not pickup the activation word.

Out of curiosity…..what do you use the personal assistant for?
Find and change to a new destination while driving. What I usually use it for is "Hey BMW, take me to the nearest McDonald's alone my way". It saves a lot compared to manual input.

You can activate it without the radio on. I use it frequently to navigate and I find the quality of results if you speak clearly superb. I get it to do loads of other stuff as well which would involve taking your hands off the steering wheel.

Not sure what you mean by a pillar but will look for the mic and see how that goes. As said previously, once activated the recognition is very good. At the moment have used it for ending sat nav guidance when you know where you are going, changing radio stations or from radio to Spotify. It's also handy when phoning someone. Haven't tried to txt someone yet but will out of curiosity just to see if that works.

hi Ori - I've configured Alexa in mine which allows me to do things like turn the burglar alarm off when I get home, turn outside lights on if it's dark, and listen to my Amazon Music playlists. I find it really useful (although I am a bit of a geek!).

A-Pillar is the left and right frame of the windscreen. There is a mic shape hole on the A-Pillar interior plastic trim. If you (driver) talk to top right corner of the windscreen, then it should pick up the voice. If the passenger want to do anything, then the passenger should talk to top left corner of the windscreen. There are two mic in the car so that the car can work out who is talking then executes certain instruction to that side only (e.g open window or adjust aircon temp).

I love the dual mic system. It’s great for adjusting the heated seats & the dual zone climate. Smart feature knowing its the passenger talking.

You can also ask her (deffo a her) to tell you a joke, that’s fun.
