Fuse diagram translation?

I wondered if anyone could explain what the different symbols mean in my fuse diagram. I could guess at some of them and I have found some descriptions online but none of them explain all the different symbols.
Could anyone tell me what each of the symbols in my fuse diagram are please?

They are the same ones that appear on the instrument cluster and warning lights, switches etc. match the two up and that the fuse you need to look at.

[Edit: Completed the list with the web site I mention in a later posting]

Thanks so far chaps.
[ref]enuff_zed[/ref], That list doesnt seem to match my fuse layout diagram. For example the 3rd item down in the left column on my sheet (the square in a square) is items 12, 47 and 49. According to your diagram that would be Seat Heating, Radio and Telephone which seems unlikely to all be using the same fuse.

Using the owners handbook, the supplementary owners handbook and searching the web I have cobbled together the following (which may or may not be correct) :
-- Column 1
1. ABS / Traction Control
2. Power Steering Failure
3. Flip up display
4. Electric Mirrors
5. Alarm
6. Gearbox
7. Foglights
8. Low Beam / Sidelights
9. Light module
10. Parking Sensor
11. Electric fan
-- Column 2
12. Door lock
13. Electric Windows
14. Seat Heating
15. Seat Adjust
16. Seatbelt
17. OBD
18. Cruise control
19. Rear Window Defrost
20. Heating
21. Interior lights
22. Inst. cluster
-- Column 3
23. Convertible top module
24. Low Fuel
25. Exhaust Emission
26. HiFi Amp, TV Tuner, Video module
27. Run Flat Indicator (Tyre Pressure?)
28. High Beam / Screen Wash / Wipers
29. Front/rear cigarette lighter, glove box charging socket
30. Telephone
31. Cooling Function
32. Horn

Can anyone fill in any blanks please?

Oh and I'm not convinced all of that info is correct.
9 Feels like it should be something other than "Bulb Failure"
27 Run Flats (my z4m doesnt have run flats but thats what the owners manual says)

Well I did say 'mostly' not all.
You could always use NewTIS wiring diagrams to help

Please dont misunderstand [ref]enuff_zed[/ref], I'm not complaining. I'm extremely grateful for your, and anyone elses input.

It seems odd that BMW provide a chart with a bunch of symbols on it but dont also supply somewhere a reference chart for what the symbols mean.

The square in a square is, at a guess, the flip up display.

Fuse 12 seems to be powering low level stuff so would cover a lot of instruments. Remember heated seats have a control panel they need to power as well as the heating element. So fuse 12 will likely be the control panel and fuse 16 will be for the seats elements.

Updated my list thanks.

Oh that makes sense. Especially as 12 is 5A and 16 is 25A.

Just noticed that 12 is in multiple items?

Is one of the symbols a fuse for the internal lights like the overhead reading lights? I am planning to swap out my glovebox for one with an LED bulb in it and it seemed logical to tap into the same fuse as the other internal lights.

Found

which filled out a lot of the symbols.

What year is your zed? I'm guessing it's a late one. I think there may be a few differences between the pre- and post-facelift models.

Its a Z4MC, licence plate YF06. Not sure how I would tell if it is a pre or post facelift?

I'm guessing that the card with the fuse layout was the same for all cars of that year? Because it says there are fuses for the run flat tyres which I dont have, convertible roof and mines a coupe, flip up display which I dont have.

Do you suppose those fuse spots could be used for other things?

If it's a Z4M, it can only be facelift. Mine is a 2008 car and the fuse layout card is missing, but the one in my lad's 2005 (pre-facelift) doesn't look like yours (no pictures/icons). I'll check it out next time I see him.

Thanks for the info [ref]Sidewaze Samm[/ref]. 2 Z4s in the family? Nice, you have the makings of a convey :)

We've each had a previous zed too - mine was a half-decent 2.5si, his was a 2.0 that needed throwing away (and was, after 4 weeks)

Wish you had thrown it my way, could have used some bits off it. Not the whippy though.
