Fuse 10 keeps blowing - alarm sounds, no central locking, windows, interior lights etc...

Hi folks, its been a while! Months and months of happy motoring...

Until yesterday.

I got into my E85, did about 20 miles, stopped at a super market and when I returned to my car, the interior lights weren't working. The alarm then sounded (a truly horrific noise) but the car still started. I went another 10 miles or so, with the alarm intermittent (while driving) and stopped. When I tried to start the car again, it just ticked over without starting, lights, wipers, indicators, roof, interior lights, all not working.

Called out the RAC and we could pin it down to fuse 10 being blown. replaced the fuse, blew immediately. This happened to 5 or so fuses. We got to the 6th fuse and it didn't blow, everything back to normal.

I guess its only a matter of time before this happens again... Any ideas??!!

Has something dropped into the cigarette lighter hole and shorting it out ? Worth a look.

Does sound like something shorting out , good to see RAC just kept replacing the fuse rather than finding out the cause , surprised they didn't just fit higher an higher rated fuses an cure it that way , then just wait for the wiring to burn out

That's pretty a shocking 'fix' (excuse the pun...) - fuses are there for a reason, replace once - if it blows again then you need to investigate the cause. Not keep going and hope for the best; would they have accepted the liability for an electrical fire after that?

Take the fuse out straight away and find the cause.

Quick thank you to everyone on this thread. I had the same problem and was able to resolve it with your your help :)

Issue: High pitched alarm. Wipers, window switches, and heating not working. E10 fuse blowing immediately on replacement.

Fault finding: E10 fuse blown. Replacement fuse blowing immediately. Followed forum advice to turn off heater fan and to check the condition of the battery.

Temporary fix: Turned heating fan off and replaced E10 fuse. It stopped the noise and enabled me to drive to a garage.

Solution: Replaced battery. Everything now fine.
