Full BMW Service History Question

Hi, it's time for me to sell my Z4. I've tried searching for the answer to my question but just keep finding cars for sale, so apologies.

It's a 59 plate and currently has a full BMW service history. However, it's due a service, engine oil and brake fluid change, and my local BMW garage want £512 to do it. I can get it for £260 at my local independent garage.

Do you think it will make any odds to what I can sell it for having just a full service history vs a full BMW service history on a 13 year old car? It is in great nick tbf.

Cheers

Mines the same age as your car and it has BMW f/s/h. I just had my last engine oil/brake fluid change done at the end of last year at my local BMW dealership, total cost £216.49. That included the scope, I told them not to do the air filter and the microfilter, (did them myself in under an hour), they will charge you silly money for them. What other items were they listing needed to be done?

i got my z4 an inspection 2 service at my local dealership i also got them to do diff fluid and transmission fluid at the same time it was a £750 service in total and thats going back to 2016 prices.

i had a full service done again by a local indy. he removed the spark plugs and showed me them. the car had 3 different types of spark plugs in it.

this means bmw didnt change them. as i gave them 6 new iridiums to put in and some of the original bmw ones came out and a mixture of 2 others.

BMW dealer services mean nothing. once you leave your car and walk away for all you know all they do is valet it and hand it back to you. who would ever check that they actually carried out the work or know how to? it's a scam these days. service yourself or get an indy you trust.

Interesting. They said "because it only had the small inspection service last year, it needs a major service this year". I won't even pretend to know what's included in that.

Thanks for your reply.

Thanks everyone. I will book it in with my independent. I guess if it was still fairly new and worth tens of thousands it would be more relevant. Thanks again.

Hi, if you look at the BMW service website and follow the directions (you'll need to enter your reg number and mileage) it will tell you whats needed and the cost: https://www.bmw.co.uk/en/footer/contact/find-a-bmw-centre.html

If your independent has access to the BMW service records won't they just update them on the portal and it will be as good as full BMW service ?
Last full service on my 2011 car was £330.00 incl Vat. that was Oil Filter ,Air Filter, Pollen Filter, Spark Plugs, Engine Oil & Brake Fluid.
Done by a BMW Indy.
Small Service is basically Oil and Filter. :driving:

I got the 3 heat service plan from https://www.emac.co.uk/ (via an email from my main Cambridge dealer) was/is £900 or £25 a month and that included several seasonal checks, 1 main & 1 inter service, 1 mot, 2or 3 ( can’t remember which) ecu mapping upgrade and a handful of other extras inc. And unlike my VW plan I used to have, you can stop it at any time and get a refund if your in credit or continue the plan if you change the car. Win win in my eyes.

I have just sold my 8 year old E89 which had a full BMW dealership service history for the first 4 years then a BMW indy, Sytners, wanted proof that the Indy was VAT registered (Not just a back street garage) and that genuine BMW parts were fitted, which they were, all proved by receipts. They were then happy that it had a full service history

My car is worthless, last stamp was 2012 :P

If it’s worthless you’ve probably saved the equivalent of it’s value by avoiding the main dealers for a decade

I've been using local Independents both run by ex-Sytner technicians for 6 or 7 years now, and would personally rather see history for a car serviced by them than by main agents!

If you are selling privately then a full dealer service history can be faked very easily these days as you can buy service stamps on-line and just stamp a book up. The average buyer can't verify this on the spot :?
