Full beam mind of its own

Hi
2007 coupe with xenon's.
I usually drive around with my lights set on auto.
Recently, high beams seem to just come on and off intermittently on their own as I'm driving along.

The flasher stalk all seems to be working as it should, it's not floppy and flashing high beams over bumps or anything.

Doesn't seem to be caused by jolts in the road or anything that particularly seems to trigger it. Seems random.

It started a month or so when I dropped some red bull in the driver footwell, but stopped the day after (I assumed once all dried out - I think there's a module down there somewhere??,).
Now it did it again today after a few weeks of being fine, so thinking it wasn't red bull related after all.

It's a bit dodgy, worried someone might think I'm flashing them out of a turning or something when I'm not.

Any ideas what the cause may be and where I should be looking?

Thanks in advance.
Rich

My instant reaction is maybe swap the stalk/slip ring over as that would be my initial go to- as it’s not happening when you go over bumps etc I don’t think it’s a wiring/earth issue?

I wonder if it’s a relay issue or linked to the gm5- I know the gm5 controls the lights but I can’t recall if it’s headlights too…

Certainly two components worth looking at

I don’t think the red bull will have done anything light related but I may be worth checking your yaw sensor is dry! They are expensive on later cars

Such behavior in the e39's was (almost) always pointing to the LCM (light module). In the E85 the light switch acts as a LCM I believe.

It was doing it yesterday just sitting stationary and idling - on, off on, off. ??
So doesn't seem to be related to movement of any kind - seems more electronic glitchery rather than mechanical triggering.

I thought I had read there is a module in the driver side footwell which is where my drink got spilled - just clutching at straws guessing it may be related as it first did it immediately after.
Is that where the GM5 module is? And does that module control lights?

Not sure why yaw sensor would be relevant?

There's not really anything I can think of in the drivers footwell directly related to lights.

If you remove the lower steering column cover and remove then remove the screw for the upper cover you may be able to lift the upper cover high enough to remove the indicator stalk connector.

If the lights are still flashing then this will eliminate the stalk being at fault.

GM5 module is located behind the glove box. I don't think there is any module under the carpet in the E85, the car is too low for that. Only the yaw sensor is probable there, but has nothing to do with the lights. GM5 only controls interior lights, dash, etc., but not headlights.

Again, if you do some little research, the LCM in E85 is the light switch (where you turn on your headlights).
