Fuel overflow

Hi all,

This is a strange one, the last couple of fill ups at Shell the fuel cut-off happens a bit too late to avoid petrol overflowing which is a waste and can't be great for the paint either.

The pumps are very powerful there but the cut-off should avoid spillage, right?

I was wondering if putting the nozzle further in would avoid problems but doing that it just cuts out straight away even when not even close to being full.

Anyone else had this issue?
 
Are you using the same garage / same fuel pump # and nozzle everytime?

The fuel pump nozzle should detect when your tank is full from the small hole on it. It uses air resistance to flip the nozzle off when the tank is getting full. When the tank gets full the air resistance is higher which can be used to cut the nozzle.

Try a different nozzle or petrol station and report back.

Yes, I find fuel cuts off to easily & tend to remove the nozzle a bit to avoid it-doesn't usually end up over the car though :?

This is the one thing that I still can't get right! Don't have the problem of the fuel over spilling, i have the same issue as Smartbear, cuts out too early and end up with 3/4 tank. Still haven't got the angle right :(
 
I'll try Tesco next time, I've used two different pumps at Shell and same result. I asked the attendant if there was anything that can be done to help, but he must have taken that to mean I wanted compensating and gave me a £5 voucher, which while nice doesn't solve the issue.

I am being careful but when going for a full tank I rely on the auto cut-off to let me know when it is completely full, it is just that lately the auto cut-off is happening too late, I don't remember having this issue in any previous cars.

Will see what happens next time at Tesco and report back.
 
I have had this issue too. I have found that twisting the nozzle to the 4 or 5 o'clock position helps, as does tending the nozzle as opposed to locking the trigger on and walking off. I also use care with the last 1/4 tank or so - nursing it in rather than full bore on.
 
Good news, the 5 o'clock position allowed full trigger pressure until cut-off without any overflow. Problem solved.

Can't believe i made a tank last this long, but finally tried the 4/5 oclock position and works a charm :thumbsup:
