depending on courier costs im interested in the wheels, ill have a quick search and let you know  what are the tyre sizes? i assume they are not staggered? im thinking of using them as track day wheels so looking at what replacement tyres would cost.

edit are they all 225 45 ?

peddy, cheers but I'll have to pass on them. Courier costs a bit scary plus I'm struggling to justify the cost of suitable winter tyres to myself :(

under £35... not too bad? http://www.wheelcourier.com/book.html

EDIT: are you any of these postcodes that are excluded?

"Scottish Highlands postcodes - IV, HS, KA27-28, KW, PA20-49, PA60-78, PH17-26, PH30-44, ZE"

That's a better amount!

But I'm still struggling more to justify the cost of winter tyres at the moment: that's the real issue if I'm being honest, because that's a fair price for your wheels. I had my eye on winter tyres at £61/each, but the cheapest I can now find for a recognised brand is £90/each :(

Wow, just had a look at camskill and even the 16" is expensive. infact it's more because you only have one option. by the looks of it your budget is around £450-£500 (wheels and tyres) why don't you just get tyres for the 18" with that budget? See how many miles you'll probably do in them and how many miles they last (not sure how different it is with winter ones) to see if they'll last long enough to splash out the whole thing on just tyres.

how bad does the weather get where you are? if it's really bad (like the things i see on the news) then it sounds like a must, so maybe it's best to fork it out now or you might have to fork out a lot more if you don't... if not worse!

EDIT: possibly a silly question, but are winter tyres cheaper, in say, spring?

EDIT2: some cheap ones here: www.mytyres.co.uk

Winter tyres don't seem to be readily available in the sizes required for 18" rims unfortunately! The general consensus is that 17" with the standard 225/45/17 tyres is the best option. I was after the Kuhmo's (think it was Camskill) for £61/tyre but out of stock. Those cheap no-name ones on mytyres aren't appealing: although they're winter tyres, in the same way that I wouldn't skimp on summer/all-season tyres (FK-452s!), I'd want decent winter ones too.

That's my dilemma. The weather can get fairly bad at times - my house is up a hill approx 180m/550ft above sea level so we get ice/snow before anyone else lol, but then I'd just leave the Z4 where it is. It's more that winter tyres have a more suitable compound for cold weather - they'll grip better in cold weather than a summer-compound tyre: that's what's more appealing. But TBH because I've got the luxury of cycling to work, I rarely NEED to use the Z4 in poor weather.

Anyway, I survived this on RFTs with 2-3mm last year, so I'd hope I'd be OK on my properly treaded Falkens..

wow that's quite bad. i guess if they grit the roads properly and clear the snow which looks like they have in the pic then i guess you'll be ok.

you cycle in that weather?? :o

well let me know if you want the wheels... i'm in no rush to sell them, and it doesn't seem like there's too much interest, so i don't think they'll be flying off the shelf... :)

P.S. yeah, i was quiet impressed with my title too lol
