Just bought this.

Fruity Car Cables latest offering for the E85/86 Z. Aux cable but with a Bluetooth option inline.
I've already done the AUX retrofit and found the audio quality lacking bass. See a few others mentioning the same thing in various threads.
I've got the Carver DSP system with NAV and Bluetooth.

Hope to have a go at this over the weekend. Just need to work out where to pick up the power feed for the Bluetooth dongle.
Anyone fitted one of these yet?

Look v. interesting. I went to their website but apparently the installation instructions are in the works. Did you get some supplied with the unit?

No instructions but Rory provides great support. Looks straight forward. There are guides around on how to fit an aux on here. I fitted a genuine BMW aux previously. The additional Bluetooth bit looks like it just needs to get power from somewhere. Once I've worked out what to splice into and given it a try I will update.

Useful link from Rory on how to get the head unit out.
Then 3 pins into existing 12pin plug.
RED and White to the upper row and SOLID BLACK to the lower. Red/white PIN number are 3/4 and black to 10.
The pin block slides.out of the side of the connector. I'll try and post pics when I do the fit.

So if you already have the aux, would this replace it? Also, does your existing microphone work with this for calls or is it only audio streaming?

So yes replaces any existing aux you may have. I've set mine for streaming music only and kept factory Bluetooth for phone. My android phone connects to both simultaneously. I wanted to be able to stream Spotify.
Sound quality is pretty good. Bass seems to be there. Volume only just lower than the radio. Very happy 😄
Will post some pics of install shortly

The power for the Bluetooth dongle I got my splicing into the head unit feed. Brown for earth to black and purple/white to red for switched live.

Add the aux pins into the black block.

Pair the Bluetooth. No passcode needed

I'm going to create a 3D model of an AUX plate to accept this socket. It will be designed to fit the existing panel where the original AUX connector is. If you could tell me the dimensions shown below, that'd be great. I'll share the model the model as an .stl file when I'm done.

Firstly, thank you to Gary for the link and info on the product. It’s something we’ve sat on for too long!

Also regarding the 3D printing. I can get these measurements for you, I can also get you the measurements from the genuine plate if that helps you

Thanks Rory, I have the dimensions of the plate, I just want to be able to neatly recess the socket into it. I'll post a pic later tonight.

By coincidence I had a 'Fruity Car Cables' aux cable for my E46 arrive yesterday. Installed it and upgraded the cassette HU to a CD. Worked great.

So this plate would slip into the recess that exists in our Z4 panel under the HVAC:
aux panel.jpg
This plate does not have a recess to take the knurled nut that clamps the shaft to the plate, but if the hole were snug enough, you could just thread the shaft into the hole until it was flush with the main surface (as per the original):

aux plate 2.JPG
Optionally, this plate has a recess to take the knurled nut that clamps the shaft to the plate:
aux plate 3.JPG
Personally, I think the first version would look quite neat, and pretty much match the original. If anyone was paranoid about it, they could araldite the socket in. Or even tap the hole?
Thoughts?

Looks great! I'd be interested in option 3.

OK, great, when I get the true dimensions then I can update the models and I'll make both available. Just PM me and I'll send them out.
