Front wing damage

Hi all,

My first post! This morning I stupidly hit a car whilst reversing out of a tight spot. Anyway, i damaged the front driver side wing. There is a dent in it and some scratches. It looks quite bad. Was wondering if anyone knew what I would be looking at (price wise) to have the wing a) repaired or b) replaced.

Wondering wether to go through my insurance or not.

Help apreiciated. Thanks.

mchugbri, welcome to the forum

Maybe post some pics of the damage so someone on here can judge what kinda work you'll need. I few people on here have used 'chips away'

Ouch :o fairly substantial crease there!

I doubt a bodyshop could get that looking perfect again, may need a new wing, not sure if any Z4 are breaking at the moment, haven't seen any on ebay.

I had a similar bump on my old Corsa... bodyshop popped it out nicely, so should be doable. you'd be looking at around £200, so probably not worth the insurance route unless you don't have an excess to pay? Even still though still worth forking it out yourself IMO.

I was always told a dent could be popped out, but a crease is too hard to remove. Something about the metal stretching and not being able to go back to its original shape so you'd be left with a bulge. The bodyshop should be able to give you a quote so have them take a look before calling your insurance.

Welcome - shame it's not a better subject for first post

Frankly I'd worry about trying to repair that dent. As chrismann points out it's on a crease line. No matter how well it's pulled out it will need filler and over time will show through being in such a critical highlight position.

New wing is part 41357053327 and at around £258, although you may be able to get 10% off that.

Depends which route you go but labour to repair can end up making the new wing a better option.

Worth getting a few quotes i would think;to compare cost of repair vs renewal. hope u get it sorted ok.

enjoy the forum

Thanks all. My excess is £500 so I'm thinking just leave the insurance company out of it. I also think a new wing is going to be likely. I've been referred a good body shop by my mechanic mate, so I'll give him a go.

Keep you posted (excuse the pun)!

True... forgot about the crease.

I would take the breaker route TBH... Silver is a common colour so you should be able to source one easily/quickly for around half the dealer price IMO.

There's one on ebay but sadly its frontal damage, but they do come up from time to time. Get it fixed by a bodyshop as best they possibly can and keep an eye out for a breaker.

Otherwise you'd need to buy a wing and have it sprayed.

chrismann85, That one on ebay came to mind as well, but shame the wing is gone.

how did you manage that?!

Did you not damage the car you hit also?

I'd say its a new wing... i wouldnt waste my time trying to get a panel beater trying to correct it - as it will not be 100% and end up costing you more in the long run.

I reversed out a parking space and as I swung the car around I hit a compressor that was attached to a work van. As you know them things are bullet proof so no damage to them.

Also realised the BMW indicator is on that wing along with the 2.5i etc. Is this going to cost me more does anyone know.

Anyway, going to see a panel beater today just to get a quote. I think I'd rather replace the wing tbh, would rather it be 100%.

Ouch.... ironically if you hit a normal car you prob would have gotten away with it.

The indicator and the surrounding ring come out fairly easily.... but if you get a new wing and have it resprayed if you wanted to keep the badge you would need to buy a new one - personally i would just remove the badge on the other side... and go badgeless.

good luck.

Hi as before the big problem is the crease and on that part of the wing the repair will have to be a dam good one so you will not see it. I think you would be better having a new wing and then all will be well, apart from your bank balance. Good look
