Front windscreen rubber surround

Ok, having proven that the wind noise comes from bad fitting rubber by using masking tape around the top, I want to order an OEM surround.

I had a browse online but wanted to know where people manage to get OEM windscreen surrounds from under £30 ...

If you have a source - please let me know

Try LLL parts

If you register you’ll get 10% I think then a few days later a 25% off

That’s where I usually order mine from

Just ordered it from my local BMW dealer, £34.
LLL parts was £37 ex shipping, did not receive a 10% code upon signup but will see if the 25% one will come so I can use that when I need it.

Thanks for the pointers chaps

Fitted the oem, not better what so ever. It just does not sit properly from the middle to the passenger side, where there is a small gap of the rubber where it meets the car rubber. If I push it down, the wind noise disappears.

Very disappointing, it must be the way they fitted the screen that makes the rubber not sitting well.

Looking for a thin rubber type tape now so I can stick it down with that, getting fed up with it now after spending 5 hours trying to make it sit right :x

A bit too permanent to stick it down.

As I have taken the trim on and off more times than I care to think about, I was hoping someone could tell me how much of the "gunk" underneath the glass would need to be removed for the seal to go in properly. As the angle is a challenge and without taking the paint off in that channel, I am looking at using carving knifes to remove as much as I can but not sure if it is possible without removing the glass.

Yes, I have a set of those including the curved ones to see if I can get to it. Going to be a long, slow, yuck process as it is so sticky

I fitted a new genuine BMW screen surround back in June without too much bother. The old one came out quite easily and then I spent a while with some tar and glue remover soaked microfibre cloths and a hooked plastic trim removal tool working them around the recess and screen until all the excess black sealer was gone and everything was scrupulously clean. The new one went in easily with some glass cleaner for lubrication. A bit of careful manipulation in the top corners using said plastic trim removal tool to get it to sit down in the recess more snugly. Didn't require any sealer etc. Four months now and it's spot-on  20230602_160507.jpg

I also completed this job recently and in my opinion the new trim can be fitted without removing the screen in an e85 and does not need any additional sealant.

As patriot66 says about removing the old sealant this step is critical to getting a good fit, if any old sealant remains it stops the new trim fitting securely, if the new trim bounces when tapped then there is still old sealant stopping it fitting in the channel.

Good call, apologies I assumed he had an E86.
