Front Top Mount Question - Bilstein B6 shocks

Morning guys,

About to order a set of Bilstein B6 shocks as part of the ongoing suspension refresh with the mileage close to 62k miles. I’m going to order a pair of Rogue rear top mounts, but not sure what to do with the fronts. I don’t feel I need fancy camber plates etc, happy with my -1.5deg camber.

So thinking OEM mounts again, but to be honest they look pretty good, the rubber doesn’t seem to have degraded etc, would it make sense just to replace the bearings? Part 5 here - http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=BT93-USA-05-2006-E85-BMW-Z4_M32&diagId=31_0759

Thoughts\Suggestions??

If you can do this job in your garage with no time pressure, then I would remove the front suspension and then asses the condition of the mounts and order any parts you think need refreshing.

Evening John,

Yeah I'll be doing it myself . It's always nice to have all the new parts lined up ready to go on though :)

In all seriousness, not seen much mention of worn top mounts on here, hence just thinking of changing the bearings since they're dirt cheap. Rears we know wear out!

In fact, I had the fronts apart about 6000 miles ago when I changed the springs and the seemed fine, but not sure how they compare to new ones. All I changed that time were the bump stops and the rubber boot which didn't look healthy.

Graeme, I think the bearings and the rubber bits would probably benefit from replacement if you want to have all the bits to hand. I thought you'd had the suspension apart relatively recently so thought you would have replaced any of those bits at that time if you'd found it necessary. I'll be interested to know what you think of the B6 after you've tried both OEM and aftermarket springs. Enjoy!
