Front speakers cut out when sound system is turned up.

Hi all,

I have a 2003 3.0 BMW Z4 with the top carver system installed.

Everything has been working spot on until this morning. I turned on the stereo and was listening to a CD at low volume (everything is working fine) then I decided to turn it up to a medium/high volume and the front speakers (sounds like maybe just tweeters not sure could be all 3 speakers each side) cut out intermittently constantly every few seconds or so.

If I turn it down to a low volume all speakers start to work fine again and there is no issues.

There is no water in the battery comp where the amp is and it does the same on all modes on the stereo CD, Aux, Radio etc.

Anyone got any ideas what it could be or any further diagnostics I could try?

I don't want to buy a new amp if the issue is still around afterwards, that's all.

Otherwise anyone in SW London, Surrey or Somerset (some weekends) got one they could plug in to see if that works without problem in my car?

Thanks

Ash

Does anyone know if the two smaller speakers behioned the seats are run off of the DSP amp as well?

Still have this problkem guys any help on the matter would be great.

Anyone think it could be a speaker issue or is it most likely to be the amp?

Thanks

Ash

If it's just the tweeters, then that sounds awfully like blown speakers dude :/

If ALL of the speakers were cutting in and out, then I'd say the amp is dieing (going into safety cut-off mode to preserve itself, thus cutting the sound.)

try cutting the bass / dsp and then turning the volume back up.. if they don't cut out, then it's amp just not having enough juice anymore :/

Right a bit if an update, if I turn the treble all the way down then I can turn it up and there is no cutting out. But obviously it doesn't sound great at all.

The higher I have the treble on the Headunit the lower the volume can be before it cuts out.

When it cuts out it is literally on for 1/2 a second off for 1/2 a second.

I don't think it is all the front speakers maybe it's just the tweeters and maybe the mids as well. Anyone know how the amp splits the front speakers up? Are all 3 on one channel or are they split?

I have removed the amp and opened it up to see for water damage and all looks ok and like new. When I removed the amp it was really really hot is this normal or not? (Nearly to hot to hold on to)

Anyone else got any ideas?

Thanks for your help so far

Ash
