Front slam panel paint

Looking to repaint the front slam panel (that the bonnet catch is fixed to). I’ve removed the plastic cover that secures the top of the radiator and I am undecided if the black paint is Matt or satin. Anyone else painted theirs?

Did mine a couple of years back and it's definitely satin black. I ground out all the rust on mine and treated it with Jenolite Rust Converter first before spraying with Simoniz Tough Satin Black. Also sprayed the strut top aluminium cross-braces as they were flaking. They look just as good now  20220329_173459.jpg20220329_162031.jpg20220329_173622.jpg

Is it difficult to remove?

I wondered that too but you don’t need to remove it. Just mask it up well. Patriot didn’t remove his - you can see the fixing bolts still in place in the photo if you zoom in.

The short answer is yes. Unfortunately the slam panel itself is the top section of the front cross-member and that's a BIG job to remove. The only corrosion to speak of on mine was fairly superficial and on the top surfaces that are concealed by the plastic trim panel. If the whole of the cross-member was badly corroded I would have considered removing it and having it media blasted and powder coated  Screenshot_20240429_134941_eBay.jpg
