Front PDC

Should the factory fitted front PDC come on automatically at low speeds when in a forward gear?

We are having a few things looked at by our local dealer today and the service manager said PDC only comes on in reverse or if you press the PDC button.

On Previous non BMW cars that we've had the front PDC was automatic.

If it's any help, on my 2001 E39 M5 that's exactly how it works.

+1 otherwise it would come on all the time in town traffic

We had PDC on our X3.

Having it on all the time would be endlessly annoying.

It all depends how it's been implemented by the manufacturer. We had automatic front and rear PDC on a previous Mercedes which worked really well. On the front PDC you would initially get a visual indication on the dashboard mounted display and then when you were closer to the object you would get an additional audible warning.

You wouldn't get the audible warning in traffic unless you were driving very closely to the car in front or someone walked in front of the car when stopped in traffic.

The visual display was separate to the Command audio/sat-nav system so you didn't get the main screen having to change between modes.

We never turned it off in 3.5 years and it was never annoying.
